Dartin for Divorce

****, I think the glass has to be out to install those trim clips properly...the clip kits are available. For the window trim, and the vinyl top trim. But, dont sweat it. I wish I was to the point of installing a top on mine...:)

Yep manual states to pull the front and rear windshield.

I'm just frustrated with the bubbles, and get mad at myself for things not being perfect. The car needs some small rust taken care of and repainted, so when I do that in a couple years I'll pull the windshields and have a new one put on the correct way .

The pic you posted of your wife doesn't look like she's ready to divorce you! Seems to me you have your life in order, and are having a wonderful time! keep working on getting your family involved.. one of these days I'll see that cute little girl wrenching on a 'Cuda!
Tip, when you get frustrated, walk away and fight another day :)

Roof is finished and I cleaned up most of the adhesive that was all over. Still a little more to clean but maybe another day.

Kids helped me give her a bath.

Even though the paint and roof aren't perfect, has a little bubbling in both I would say she cleans up very nice.

Next project is figuring out the seat foam situation, they are comfy but the foam is starting to break apart and make a mess out the back. Also the back portion of the front seats don't stay attached .

Yep, she cleans up well. Have your neighbors stopped by to check it out yet?

No, they all look over here while I'm working on it in the garage, driveway, or when we drive it around the neighborhood. We just moved in here 2 months ago and don't know any of our neighbors either though

These wheels popped up on my ads while on this site, and even though they are Ford wheels I think they could look awesome on this car. I even like the GT center cap .

So today I cleaned out some of the loose foam junk from inside the front seats and then tightened the back pieces up so they don't fall off as easily .

Then with the help of some smart gentlemen on this site decoded my engine block. 68 build in Windsor Plant 340 Sept 26 1967 409 unit of the day .

After got a new belt for the AC compressor to the crank. The air systems blows air and a good amount, it's just only 2 temperatures it blows warm and hott. The compressor spins so its time to figure out how to get it cold, hopefully it just needs refrigerant.

Got the belt on and then realized there was no electrical connection to the ac compressor, found the plug for it wrapped up near the firewall and plugged it in. The compressor spins, so I'm thinking of picking up 2 cans of r12 and see if we can get some cold air blowing out of it. If not I'll probably do an r134 conversion for ease of getting r134.

Now on to more important things. I am thinking of having the engine rebuilt, but haven't found a shop/person in town to do it yet. I would do it myself but honestly don't have the time or space for it, maybe one day.

Currently the car has a 68 340, cylinder heads 2531894 (x heads I would assume?) an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap and a edelbrock 1405 carb.

I have headers and an exhaust sitting in my garage, both need cleaned up but might provide a little extra pep to the car :steering: Thought about getting them cleaned and re-chromed but for the cost of re-chroming them I could probably buy new ones? Should I just clean them up and paint them with a high heat spray? Or is that a no-no?

Well my ac charge failed miserably. The new style ac charge hoses and connections you get from the local auto store don't connect to the old school compressor. So I'll have to either figure out how to connect it or possibly just do the correct Vintage Air kit which is probably the smartest thing to do.

I also picked up some rust primer paint and some vht extreme heat paint for the headers. I got the silver color because that's what my daughter picked even after offering her red blue and orange.

Just picked up an adapter for the compressor and some pag oil and going to put that in later with more r134a see if we get some cold air.

Looking at radiators, cold case with fan is nice, 550 though, the wife might kill me haha.

Also talked to a local Mopar guy who builds cars for guys, quoted me 4-6k to rebuild the engine...

4-6k is a lot for a rebuild. Hopefully that's you dropping off your entire car and picking it up in two weeks ready to rock!

Be sure to contact @Johnny Mac at blueprint engines (he's here on fabo) if your pricing new engines. Definitely sounds like the way to go , hearing really good things lately about them.

I'm not an A/C expert, but are you hearing the compressor clutch engage? The pulley will freewheel until the clutch engages, then it will charge the compressor.

Yikes! That's quite a price tag for sure! For a rebuild.

Everything we do is dyno tested, 30 month, 50k mile warranty. Chrysler long blocks start at 5k. For a core free, running engine.
Chrysler Compatible Crate Engines

We go clear up to a roller cam, aluminum headed 408 with about 470 hp. Details on that new one over in the BluePrint Forum :)

Always happy to help a forum member

I'm no expert either. This is literally the oldest car I have ever had usuall all my cars are newer and come stock with ac. I'm not a great mgiever so there is definitely a lot that I read here which goes in one eyeball and out the other haha .

I've been eyeing them that's for sure. Let's see if I can blow up the 340 first then the wife can't say no.

Only problem with the engine replacement is trans/rear end would have to be a spend up process as well to be safe with 400+ hp

I totally was expecting maybe 3k for someone to build an engine for me, just stock replacement didn't realize 5k for a stock rebuild.

Here in Rome Georgia a local machine shop with a great reputation will do a stock rebuild 273 for $1600 - $2000. He's done work for me but never a rebuild.

Ask around and find some others to quote you. Might find he's higher than the others.

I have the number to a couple other shops, I was going to call tomorrow. I really don't know if the motor needs rebuilt, it seems to run good, has a little trouble starting sometimes (maybe needs a carb tune). It also smells like gas no matter how far I drive it, figured it was just the way an old big motor Mopar runs/smells.

On the engine, theres 'rebuild" and "overhaul". Rebuild , to me means you tear it down, check everything by taking measyrements, then get machine work done etc. "Overhaul" is more of a 'tear down, clean inspect, if the crank journals still good, polish with emery clloth, if bores still good, hit em with a hone job, replace bearings, gaskets, maybe even reuse pistons if theyll clean up. One is more "inexpensive" than the other, Im thinkin 4-6 grand is a "rebuild" including new everything, and going .030 over on the cylinder bore, new pistons, a new crak, cam just about everything new, including machine work.

Yes that's what I was asking. For a rebuild, I want it reliable, I don't want to take the kids for ice cream and the car blow up and us stuck walking home lol.

I called another machine shop here in town that I was referred to and the guy quoted me 2800 -3100 for a full rebuild of the 340.

That sounds better. hoe does the car run now? is it pretty quick? does it pull nice? pin ya in the seat when ya punch it etc? Its possible it may have been rebuilt before, or at least had the heads redone.

Yea it's pretty quick as it is. Punched it the other day and it threw my daughter in the seat and she gave me this look of what the heck was that daddy before smiling and telling me to do it again. I am pretty sure the guy said it has been rebuilt before, I just don't know when it was done or have any paperwork on it, so I'm worried about putting anything on the car performance wise before knowing much about the engine.

When hot out it stutters a little, it also doesn't like to start right away after driving it sometimes you have to pump the gas and crank it 3-4 times before it turns back over.

Drove it the other day down the street to the auto store 5-10 minute drive there and 5-10 back. Got home and it decided to piss coolant through the overflow all over the garage. So project for this weekend is cleaning the current radiator, finding a fan shroud, water pump, coolant hoses, and possibly a new radiator later on.

I also don't know how to tune a carb lol. I started watching some youtube videos on carb tuning yesterday. I have the edelbrock RPM AIr Gap 7576, Edelbrock 1405 carb (pretty sure it's the 1405 but could be the 1406 as it's very hard to tell)
