Any morel hunters out there?

I have been once but never found anything I have never seen one in person but kinda know what they look like. I found these in the wooded part of my backyard yesterday are these morels?

Probably be out looking this week. Peabody coalmine ruined a lot of good woods here. No, I am not against coal, I made most of my living at coal fired power power plants.But, I do like morels!
 
I don't hunt for morel, but I'd say they are. Take a spore print to be sure.

I learned a lot about mushrooms hunting other varieties. The two basic rules of spore prints...

purple/black = not poisonous, possibly psychedelic (purple almost always)
brown/red = possibly poisonous, need further ID
 
Audubon Society Field Guide to North American mushrooms is the most informative book I have had on the subject. Most psychedelics will bruise blue, but so do some boletes. A spore print will make ID easier. I pick them everywhere I go and take prints. I had a pretty extensive print collection at one point, don’t know what ever happened to it
 
clean them, roll in egg batter and cracker crumbs, fry them, make gravy from batter/cracker crumbs, put gravy on bread, cold glass of mike with a few ice cubes, eat and go to bed. nothing like it.
 
How do you take a spore print?
If these are psychedelic I will eat them for sure haha. Jk I dont plan on picking them I always heard if you leave them be they will multiply. If they are moreIs I should have alot next year.
 
Pop the cap off and place it on a piece of white paper over night, gills down. The color and shape will ID. For some reason all the psilocybin strains are highlighted in the copy of my book. Haha
 
This one looks the closest, can't say I have seen those other shapes, maybe they weren't done growing.

When harvesting them cut them off at the base, carry them in an onion sack so the spores are falling to the forest floor as you are moving around. No one is really sure if this does any good, but it certainly can't hurt.

Once you cut them off you should be able to see from the bottom of the stem all the way to the tip of the cap. There are others you might find that will have a fuzzy substance inside, kinda like what a cocoon would be wrapped in.

The old saying goes, "if it ain't hollow don't swallow".

They look like they are past their prime, so the spores likely have already been released. And I wouldn't eat them at this stage either. But I'm guessing.

If you are looking for psychedelics, get this book. There are four active substances...psylocybin, psylocin, baeocystin and norbaeocystin. The more the merrier LoL.

We are coming up on the time here in a couple weeks. They typically grow in very specific areas, and supposedly have a symbiotic relationship with several species of trees. I don't think spreading spores does much, they can't grow them in captivity that I am aware of. I don't know much but I know that they are very tasty dusted in flour and sauteed in butter and Marsala.

When you look down the stem you can see all the way down to the cone. That's hood to know thanks that's crazy I have morels in my back yard a lot of guys walk alot of mountains to find them.
Is it true they come back every year if you dont disturb them?

I'm not looking for psychedelics that was a joke I have no desire to hallucinate lol
 
Ever since we got donkey's, they tend to poop in the same places and we always got funny little mushrooms popping up out of the piles.......
