do you have a service manual? at least go through the transmission symptom list. also make sure the rear brakes aren't all but locked up

Not brakes. This is what the fsm says.

Let me get this straight.
Before you started all this, your transmission and brakes worked fine. You installed a camshaft. And now your transmission and brakes don't work ?
Very odd.

My brakes work the same now as they did before I started any of this... but yes my transmission worked perfectly before starting this. This video is from Before the car was taken apart. That's why this is so weird and I'm having such a hard time with it.

yes, but i don't think that's exactly what's being said. he did a bunch of stuff, including a cam change, that may or may not have had anything to do with the current issue. after futzzing with it for a while now it probably, in my opinion, would be a good time to start from scratch at re-diagnose what the actual symptoms are.
motor runs fine in park and neutral
can drive the car in reverse
"Running it in drive acts the same as when in 1st and 2nd. It stutters the. When in drive once it starts moving it gets a little smoother but wont shift into 2nd." not sure what this means exactly, but i think it just won't shift out of first?
the brakes thing was me trying to remember some of his comments over the course of this, and thinking he was meaning anytime it's in a forward gear it stalls, but in reverse it's fine. if the rears were just about locked up he might be having that type of issue.

hey DD...

This is essentially what I'm going to be doing over the weekend and see if I can get anywhere with it... I'll have to read in the FSM a little more and see if I can figure anything out.

Tony also said we could manually put the gearshift lever in drive, bump start it with the starter and if it does the same thing

post 1415, first hint something wrong
She idles great...but doesn't drive... lol. It feels like the trans is slipping, and it also doesn't want to shift to 2nd. I added 1.5qts of trans fluid and it still does the same thing. In 1st, 2nd and reverse

Do you know for fact, you have the correct amount of fluid in the transmission ?
I think I read you were taking fluid out ?
You must have the right amount of fluid in the transmission, if you want it to shift right.

And yes, Lokar sucks.
Factory linkage would work much better.

I dont know what your trying to say. I lost trans fluid when I took everything apart, it read a little low so I filled it up. Then it read a little high so I took some out. It reads just a touch over full while warm and in neutral now.

Yes, lokar is a pain in my side right now and tony said the same thing about factory linkage today ha.

Fluid amount see above. Lost fluid taking it apart (had to take off trans lines and cooler). Added fluid because it read slightly low, added to much and took some out. Now it reads just a touch above the full line.

I mean I have the floor shifter... and all the brackets...and linkages.... I'll double check and see if they fit tomorrow, only thing I'd be worried about bbn is my lower rod since it's for a 727. I mean, look how easy this looks.

this would be good if you end up with not enough fluid

funny thing about that linkage, I believe I have read many post that say to run the lokar cable with the different than stock intake, glad I didn't buy that 100.00 part yet

I am hoping it turns out to be one of the dumbest oversights ever. I'm going to go through all the wires and hoses on the firewall tomorrow and see if I forgot to plug something in or if something is getting hung up somewhere. Also I'll get a minion to press on the gas pedal while I check the linkages.

Did the engine get jacked up or moved around or mounts worked on at all? If the engine (or trans) moved it can tweak the shift linkage relation to the transmission. I'm not sure it's possible to be "between" gears in the shift selector, but I'd double check the shift linkage if it were me...

May also be worth bypassing that trans cooler for a few minutes just to rule it out (or a kink in the line?). New stuff, if it goes bad, tends to go bad quickly.. So it's good to rule out other new parts that have anything to do with the trans.

The engine did get jacked up and moved around and that is something tony mentioned which was the shift selector maybe between gears. Which is why he mentioned we could manually put it in park, bump start it and see if it does the same thing.

I read the FSM and it doesn't state which way the gearshift lever needs to go to be in park. Backwards seems to be logical?

Ps- my wife said I'm not allowed to buy a new transmission. I told her good, because we would just rebuild this one if we have to :poke::D

same as the 727 I showed you ...park is to the rear...one click forward is reverse... next click is neutral..next click is drive...
Set parking brake.. block tires...start engine with starter relay switch.

I was just going to cycle through them for now like it say to do on this thread, without starting it to see if this helps at all.

I'm doing as much research and diagnosing as I can before you come back over that way I can be of a little help

Cleaning garage floor before I get back to work messing with the car. We have a home inspection coming up in the next week or 2. Also need to get rid of some oil antifreeze slush...

guessing this is to run it through the gears with the shifter disconnected?

@kursplat yes I'm going to go through the gears and make sure all of them are engaging.

Here are the instructions I found on FABO. Tony was just going to do it the quicker more efficient way lol.

yes...we are trying to figure out that if the shifter is in Drive...it is in Drive not between gears.....

we feel your pain doc, seems to me a good fresh start tomorrow of checking these last couple of things may help you find the issue. What ever you find I will make damn sure I check mine while Im reassembling

Yes anything I do (when 70AARCUDA isnt here), you should do the exact opposite so it works correctly

does it make any difference if you crank it in neutral instead of cranking in park?
