So I went to check timing on my car the other day after a buddy of mine tuned my car a little bit. It has 25* initial and 35 total. It’s a 360. got edlebrock heads and cam with 10.1 pistons. 25* initial seems like a lot to me so I tried to back some timing out of it. The problem is that I don’t have enough ignition curve. I only have a 10* curve. I’m thinking of replacing the distributor with something like one of the ones I’m going to leave a link below. I can’t have less initial timing because then I won’t have enough total timing. I set it at 15 but then I only have 25 total and it runs like trash like that. So any distributor recommendations or solutions to this problem would I be greatly appreciated! MSD 8388 Chrysler 318-360, Ready-to-Run Distributor

I run the factory electronic distributors. Then I can change springs or set timing limits myself.

Is there a spring kit? Do you lighten the springs for more advance?
lighter springs makes you get your total timing quicker - or at a lower RPM. More or Less advance is determined by how much the centrifugal weights movement are limited by the slots. Every engine will have different settings so tuning to your specific engine is what needs to be done

If it likes the *25 why mess with it.

Sounds like a performance setup to me. I run about *18-20 initial and 35 total in a 383, all in by 3k.

I like running the MSD because it gives you all the different Springs and graphs right on the box to set your curve and it also gives you Hi-Lo limiters...
It comes with about 14 degrees of advance with how its setup out of the box. Which has work for me so far. I also put the very lightest and the next step spring I forget the colors but they are color coded. And it gives the second most fastest advance on their chart. this way you can kind of follow their charge and get a good rule of thumb.
25 initial advance isn't extremely crazy with what kind of setup you have. Saying you have a cam in it is extremely vague. But I'm assuming it's got a hydration. Most performance cams like at least 19 to 20 degrees of advance at idle and most all Mopar small blocks with some exceptions are going to be somewhere in the 34 to 36 degrees All In...
Me personally I'm at 21 and 35 runs perfect starts perfect...

Ehhh I don’t know about that

Your question was "What distributor do you run?"

I told you what I run. I "don't care" whether you "believe" or "know about that". That's what I run. You asked. I answered.

Now what is it you call me when I answer people like you just did?....

I got to say I don't remember getting any ET at the track going from a stock distributor and ignition to a full MSD. But there is something to be said for knowing exactly what you adjusting your distributor curve to and from. There is obvious idle and low-rpm quality as well..
Besides not trying to run the best one of your four old rusty distributors....
When you buy a new MSD distributor you know everything is going to be tight and much more precise...

the main thing you are looking for is consistency and have it be tunable. Other than that, there is not much to be gained in ignition. For example, I had a friend that ran 9.20's at 150 mph using a regular MP distributor. Like i said, be familiar with the distributor you want to run. If the stock electronic, then get the spring kit and the FBO plate so you can set your own curve. I'm not advocating for any system in particular.....

The FBO plate also works with Mopar factory points type distributors. Ask me how I know. ;)

What Dist. is in it now ? Could be stock with a limiter and spring set up already. If so easy to recurve.

Firecore billit aluminum and dizzy, you can also get a male terminal cap with it,so that is nice.got mine from Mancini racing, but more info on firecore web page

what distributor do you currently have?
only 10 mechanical doesn't seem normal.

If you go with an aftermarket "ready to run" distributor, be aware of the height difference. They are a lot taller then the stock distributors. A-body engine compartments are tight and your plug wires will be very close to your wiper motor. At the very least you'll need to use a stock style "female" cap and angled boots. A 2-speed motor should give you a little more clearance then a 3-speed. I just got done making custom plug wires for my 68 with Pertronix distributor. It's TIGHT!

I can set you up with a brand new Chrysler electronic with custom advance curve and adjustable total from zero to 18 degrees with adjustable vacuum advance for under 300 shipped.
(This is what I run and couldn’t be happier with it)
Message me for more details if you are interested.
Most anyone here that’s been here for years can tell you I have lots of experience with them.
As a matter of fact lots of people here are running my distributors.
