Well I was graciously gifted this Edelbrock 4 barrel from a fellow member! I’m new to carburetor rebuilding but promised to document the tear down and cleaning before I assemble it to my Edelbrock D4B manifold. It’s to be put on my 225 v8 1965 Barracuda
Here is progress so far. (Give me a break, we just got a puppy)
I guess first off is, I did pick up a new accelerator pump. Now I’m wondering how do I check the floats? And anything you kind people can suggest, I’m all ears!
Thank you again.
Sorry for all the pictures

It looks like it needs a trip to the cleaning vat to get all of the gunk out of the inside before putting a kit in it.

A new puppy? And no pictures? This thread is worthless without pics (can't find the emoji):mob::lol:.
(My phone is full of new puppy pics, and she isn't even mine!)
Sorry but here she is Honey, the big one is her older ‘brother’ Dylan. Same breed, Beardied Collie

AWESOME! Great looking dogs! Congrats on both new additions, carb and puppy.
Don’t ask what the puppy cost!! Oh hell, I’ll tell ya.
But she was like $2000.
No ****!
Happy wife, more car parts!!

Make life simple and get the Edelbrock kit and down load the instructions.

Can't say enough good things about Jim in parts and service whenever I've had any issues.

Take your time, read the instructions multiple times before tearing it down. Be methodical about setting out the consumable pieces as you tear it down. Take plenty of pictures as you go along to facilitate reassembly.

That’s the plan Sir!
Just like any other project I’ve worked on. I can’t afford to mess it up and I’m sort of old, 61, so my mind is not like a young bucks

My suggestion is to carefully remove old gaskets and save them. Because some kits have extras that vary slightly. Compare old to new gaskets to make sure you get correct ones.

DL the instructions but I'd hold off on shelling out for the kit.

None of the six I've opened up to clean have needed anything other than a cleaning, and all of the gaskets came off without tearing.

Gasket top one was in good shape, just canceled order. I’ll did deeper into the carb to see if I do need it.

I just pulled my 1405 apart and back together yesterday (gas went bad) in about an hour. All gaskets were reusable. The accel pump was still good. Easy and simple to do.

Key points to address are the primary venturi assemblies and air bleeds. Pull them off and check every small port with a wire and blow out with carb spray. Also spray through the ports in the main body to clean out the a/f passages leading to the adjustment needles.

When you pull the squirter there is a brass piston and ball bearing under it in the passage from the accelerator pump. Clean it out good.

I love working on carbs!
