Stop in for a cup of coffee

Yep. Pretty tricky to get cranks out when the pistons are rusted in. I maneuvered a steel 273 crank out of a block that had been through a couple floods. I bet my 241 Hemi looks like it too. It went through the same floods.
Haven’t found one I can’t get unstuck yet. Though that 383 I had last winter was definitely trying to put an end to that. A mixture of atf, kerosene and marvel mystery oil soaking in each cylinder, top for a couple weeks, then from the bottom with the engine rotated upside down on the stand, then an oak 2x4 and a sledge hammer got them out.

X2 on the oak. Evaporust and atf/wd40/liquid wrench

Good Morning Everyone. When we tried taking Dad's 413 apart we ran into the same issue as Rani. Soaked in several types of oils for a month - both from top and rotated to soak from the bottom. Even drilled the pistons to relieve some cylinder wall tension/stress. No go. Sledge hammer and a steel bar stock. Nothing. So I gave him a 440 I had.

What a busy weekend. I have a 74 318 out of my 74 duster but it's trashed, had water in it and two cylinders are beyond saving.

So i found a 77 318 block with almost no ridge, very low miles and clean block.

So i spent some time power washing the 77 block and stripping down the 74 block so i can use the crank and main caps and and pretty much everything except the block to transfer to the good 77 block.

Wasn't easy getting the crank out of a motor that is locked solid. I got 4 pistons out and one is loose but 3 are there to stay as if someone welded them in.

I had a similar issue with my numbers 383 for the GTS. 2 pistons locked solid. But obviously i need to save the block. Same as you, I rolled the crank out of it (barely). Then I had to pound the locked pistons out from the backside with a 2in Iron pipe and a sledgehammer. Was able to bore the block .030 over.....

Morning. Raining here too. So maybe no corvette today.
Maybe i do more stuff on fargo then. Have f150 sitting outside to check for power steering leak. Could be an easy fix. It may be atf/cooler line too.

We have had a sh** load of rain here this year. Very non typical........

Covid rules changing here too, code orange. Guess im not leaving my yard,no coffee shop or restaurant. Minimize my trips to town. Just for parts. and no visitors in my shop.

I an see another lock down happen in a month. And I feel it is still first wave.

I'm not so worried about the numbers matching factor so much, it's a 318 duster but the problem is I bought the good block as a bare block for 20 bucks so I need the parts from the locked engine to build the block otherwise I might have just tossed the locked long block.

I'm still debating if I should keep or toss the numbers 318. One cylinder is gone and I doubt 30,40 or even 60 over will clean it up.

Sleeve it. But really, teeners are cheap. I have a couple blocks here too.
