What are seemingly "real" early maxi heads worth, unported?

How many valve cover bolt holes? If they don't have just 4, they aren't "real" early.
most of the old max heads are worth nothing more than scrap.

The bad thing about 60 year old heads of any type is knowing nothing about valve jobs, resurfacing, or other work that may nave been done to them. Sunken valves are common on old race heads.
I used to have set of 286 MW heads that were in really good condition. Sold them w. the Isky rockers for $800. That was years before all of the other brands of heads appeared. There are many better choices now.
Those heads are priced high...unless they are mint. Good for restoring an original MW car.

Without a clean bill of health from a reputable shop, it's a crap shoot. Even stock, unmolested heads can have issues. We went through 5 heads a couple years ago to come up with 2 good heads for a restoration. One head pressure checked & maged good...but it started leaking water on the dyno.
Cause almost everyone for sale is cracked. Or some major flaw. Have them checked at a machine shop before u pay a dime. Kim
I can certainly see your point and have to agree.... Unfortunately fishermens67's statement was without context...... If you find a good set, and they are out there, they are most certainly not worthless, nor scrap.

At one time, UNported heads were worth more than ported ones, because you couldnt run ported heads in stock eliminator, and heads that had been ground on were much more common.
Since mopar came out with the new version of the iron maxwedge heads, value has dropped somewhat.
I have two sets of the 286 heads, one on my real 426 max, and another set that were professionally ported more than a few years ago. I had IMM go thru them, new valve job, valves,guides, springs and retainers and keepers.
I doubt i would have spent that money on stock castings.
And yes, ive got a set of victors too.
If i had to do it again, there would be a set of tf 270s in my cart.
