Any of you racers used one of the 2000 watt portable generators

What is the ratings on your charger?

In VERY rough figures, and assuming the figures are truthful and not "made up" 1600W is about 13amp at 120V. With an approximate 10:1 ratio between charger primary current and output, that's about 130A at 12V so by the time you drop some for effientcy maybe 20%, that's around 100A, but that was estimated at 12V and not the necessary higher figure for charging. So 100A X12v is 1200W and to translate that roughly to a 14V charge, we divide 1200W x 14v is about 85A to the batteries.

Again, it depends on what the charger is rated for?

thanks for that. Need to see if the charger has some figures on it

B3422w5, I really don't know all the figures but this is what I do know.
My Brother-in-law runs a Super Comp Dragster and uses a 2000 watt Honda Generator.
He charges the dragster battery after every run, and also charges the battery in his Lance camper + runs fans in the camper and car trailer at the track. Never had a problem being too small.
If you were closer I'd sell you my 5500 watt generator for $350 as I no longer race. And no tax !

Need a gas generator to charge your electric vehicle. Seems like a joke there somewhere. Maybe just strap it to the cart and extend your driving distance. Hybrid golf cart.

I just want a smaller one i can pick up and carry around. Not getting any younger

not often in a pit with electric. Man has to do what he has to do..lol
BTW..isnt an ounce of Liberal in me!

Understand. Just sounds funny. I bought a 3500 inverter from Northern tools. Supposed to be as quiet as a Honda. Haven’t fired it up yet. It’s what my buddy uses for his race trailer. Somewhere around 50 dbs.

Here it is.

The Honda is a very nice unit but it's about $1,100 bucks.

I have two Honda EU 2000 gens (Hook them parallel to the trailer). Both are very old…. and very dependable. It’s also nice to have them in the pit area and be able to hold a conversation.

To charge your battery powered golf carts?
Have a 48 volt cart, and thinking of buying a generator. Jegs has a pretty decent looking one for 355 bucks
Just curious if they put out enough juice to charge the batteries

JEGS 81963: Inverter Generator [2000 Starting Watts, 79cc] | JEGS
If you get a bigger model you will have room to grow, maybe add a/c to the trailer, also larger wattage inverter generators are actually quieter. I have a Yamaha 2400. The engine is 170 cc, the Honda
3,000 that is so popular is a 198 cc, these are quieter because the motor is powerful enough to generate say a 1,000 watt load at idle,
That same load on a 2,000 watt which typically has a 100cc motor
Will be reving balls out to make the same load( louder).
I would buy something bigger just once.imho

thanks.!

I chose the Yamaha 2400 because I too am not getting any younger.
I chose this model because it is big enough to run an rv air conditioner idling, and yet because this model is a pull start with a cast aluminum frame and cylinder block with cast iron sleeve,
The weight is only 70 pounds. A Honda electric start 3,000 watt is 140 pounds. The 2,000 watt Hondas are lighter, but cannot run ac.
Just something to think about.

lol… i have an open tilt trailer. If i add air to that its going to take a BIG generator….haha

As I said future expansion, when you buy enclosed(you know you wanna) generator will be big enough. Lol

actually, i have no desire for an enclosed. Just had the trailer i have custom built for me.
Its hard for me to get on my hands and knees to strap down in an enclosed trailer.
The one i had made, its a breeze to load/ unload the car and golf cart. Can tie the car down literally sitting on the trailer.
Golf cart has slide in ramps to load on the front, bed tilts to drive car on. Pretty trick!

Nice car. I met you a few Summers ago at Norwalk. Beautiful car.
The point I was trying to make is decent inverter generators are not cheap. A bigger one is quieter at the same wattage output. Also a bigger one gives you more options. Emergency at home for example. If it helps you decide, my small Honda eg600 watts can power my Schumacher battery charger in the pits on a 30 charge setting. I think the generator is near is continuous 450 watt rating, but it does it. I would not think your golf cart charger puts out much more amperage than that. I here you about the trailer. I had a flat bed open in the center. It had its advantages. But I can't take the heat like I used to when I was younger. Someone wanted my flatbed and stole it. I vowed to hold out till I could afford an enclosed.

Lance camper that ride in the bed of my truck.
2000 watts Honda generator/inverter. It will run the ac or the microwave.......not both.
future plans is to buy another one and link them together. two, 2000 Watt generators i can pack my self. 3000 watt generator/inverter I can NOT.........................
Also elevation make a big difference as to how much it can handle.

I know of quite a few guys running Honda EU2000i generators that are 15+ years old, they still always start on the first pull...Never heard of one failing.... And if you do have a problem parts are available.... Your Jegs $350 generator isn't gonna look like quite as much of a bargain when it breaks & you can't get parts.... Find the $$$ you won't regret it... Oh, if you decide to sell it you'll get most of your $$$ back..

i have the money, that isnt the issue. I am also couple of weeks from being 66, wont be around forever. So lasting15 years is zero part of my decision making
I can buy 3 of these generators for what a single Jegs one costs.
Its something i will use maybe 3 times a year. Maybe, if that.

I also run w/ a Lance. I recently put a soft start on the AC. Not cheap, but huge difference in the starting load on the generator. I have an old honda 3000 and it lugged it pretty hard. Now you don't even notice when the AC kicks on.
