Remember you are dealing with German engineering. All the basic principles still apply, but the delivery can make you scratch you head. Have fun bud I know I did. Remember the the v dub commercial from way back.
Has all economies of little car and has muchest capacities of bigger car, has engine in rear, is air coooled,, come come now vee go for little rrride. Of course you you have to put the German accents in yourself. LOL
LOL I remember and don't forget the commercial of the Bug driving in the water and it didn't sink.

Those engines are pretty tough. They have some kind of fancy valve guide material and stellite valve seats don’t know if that’s the right spelling. None of the heads I’ve dealt with have been seized. You know yourself if it turns it’ll run. Pick up a vw hod rod mag lots of big bore kits available. Don’t know everything about them but will share my experience Fred

Have seen the tee pee header red about 6” away from head in the daylight thought oh boy I cooked it. Had lunch jumped in it fired right up and away we went.
I'm not real edjamkated on VW so would like some help for sure thanks.
Didn't get a chance to look it over real good but when I get it home I'll get some pictures to show you and with your help it might run.

Just noticed the temp. this morning and our first frost. That should help kill some pesty fly's.

Out pre-running the desert race course in the brother of this one
Generator seizes up. No generator, no cooling fan. About 10-12 miles back to the house. Drive for 5 minutes, let it cool off for 15 minutes. Parked when we had to facing downhill just in case we had to bump start it

I got my mother to give us a ride back to the start/finish line where the truck was parked
Towed it back to the shop, 20 minutes to change the generator and good for race day
