Eventually, if the 440 plan ends up in the truck, I wouldn't mind running the 904 behind it too
You might have to find an adapter for 904 on a big block !!

Right. If you are looking for a little extra, a 904 behind a 360 in a drag truck might get you there. It would be expensive but a interesting comparison comparing time slips.Right ??
904 never came on B or RB ?
I wish a member could post the Car Craft torqueflite article its was very interesting and I remember a comment about if one was trying to set a record a pro series 904 would get it done and more efficient etc its ourRight. Glides are a very popular drag transmission. With the right converter and rear gear, a light car only needs 2 gears. Glides can be easily built damn near bullet proof and cheap. I had a buddy (Chevy guy) that was into glides. He would build one in his race car trailer during the races between rounds.I wish a member could post the Car Craft torqueflite article its was very interesting and I remember a comment about if one was trying to set a record a pro series 904 would get it done and more efficient etc its our
POWERGLIDE !!!
Honestly with the correct tools I can't see not being able to rebuild a 904 or 727 extremely quickly...Glides are a very popular drag transmission. rebuild and built are two different things, though. It's kind of like doing a valve job vs doing a 5 angle valve job plus port work. Massive difference.Honestly with the correct tools I can't see not being able to rebuild a 904 or 727 extremely quickly...

Most of the fast cars running a glide only have about one or two 12 dollar items in them that are GM.Yes it was never designed to be what its NOW famous for and its very popular with as you mentioned the Lite weight vessels.
Yes indeed both are what we have and suit many many roles !!rebuild and built are two different things, though. It's kind of like doing a valve job vs doing a 5 angle valve job plug port work. Massive difference.
If this guy is "building" 2-speed power glides in between rounds he's likely just freshening them up and changing the same parts he had in there...rebuild and built are two different things, though. It's kind of like doing a valve job vs doing a 5 angle valve job plus port work. Massive difference.
That sounds like a lot of work to make a pass... LOLIf this guy is "building" 2-speed power glides in between rounds he's likely just freshening them up and changing the same parts he had in there...
The machining done on transmissions is likely in the drums to add more clutches and I've heard something about a removable sprag which I can only imagine would be machining the back of the transmission... Again a lot to go through for shaving a tenth here or a tenth there...That sounds like a lot of work to make a pass... LOL
I don't claim to be a transmission expert, but I know for a 904 to live behind a 600-700 hp or more engine, there is something to it !!!Also building a high performance transmission is just putting more durable parts in with the add of some custom parts but not much machining..
Maybe not as much as you think but quite a bit of money for those parts..I don't claim to be a transmission expert, but I know for a 904 to live behind a 600-700 hp or more engine, there is something to it !!!

I know what it's like to have a powerglide in my truck. When I had 2.71's with a 31" tire, I only used 2 gears

This is a using a 727 case 904 internals and a powerglide tailshaft not the normal 727I'm no tranny pro that's for sure.. there's tons of Youboob videos showing all the 727 mods and 904 mods...
