His sister's 65 mustang with a 200 inch 6 could spin the tires at will.

Maybe turning right on a rainy day.

My mom has a 65 mustang (she bought new) with a 200 inch 6.

No way would it spin the tires in the traditional sence, believe me I have tried.

Bro I had a Stepside Dodge w the OD 4 spd /6 that would FIRE EM UP!. But, it was a Mopar....

And this makes you barf, why???
He starts talking about the Commando coming out in 65 which is true. Dodge called there's Charger 273 no mention of that. One of those guys that thinks all 273-4 engines were Commandos. Then in 66 they came out with a Super Commando. No, Plymouth didn’t have one. Dodge did for the D Dart. Someone didn't do their homework.

2 things in my humble opinion (and yes I own a active 273 car/ engine.)

1) the author is bringing to light info about the 273 in a positive light. Not bad as there is 95% of the car community that knows nothing about it. Good for parts, good for sales good all the way around for MoPar guys and gals.

2) The author is very vague and the article is all fluff.

Honestly there is more written about the /6 then the 273. It was written around click bate. Let’s face it, most of us on here could had written better. But we have not. Come on toolmanmike! Fire up that typewriter and get rolling as you have some of the best info on a 273 on the net.
Cheers!

 That's a lot of typing and I only have 2 fingers that work for that. LOL I remember that guy now. I responded on another "not so fancy" website. He still hasn't done his homework. He was nice enough to plug FABO later on in his ramblings.

I street drove & raced the 273 back in the late 60's & early 70's. You could get a lot out of those small displacement engines back then because there were parts available. After the introduction of the 340, 273 specific parts kind of disappeared. Many of my 273 performance parts were sold to other racers when I went to the 340 powered A bodies. Ed Hamburger was my go to guy back during that time frame.

There was an A body racer that I mentioned about a year or so back, his name was John Clapp. He ran a 273 powered 64 Dart GT back in the 60's & 70's in Stock Eliminator & was quite successful. After I mentioned his name, his children found & contacted me. I had a very long discussion with his daughter & I have been trying to locate his Dart so I can restore it back to it's original glory.

Oh that would be fun

i don't know..the article seems reasonable. There was a 1957 chevy nomad at our strip back in the 60's called Midnight Oil. It ran a 283 and ran around 14 sec. flat. Pretty cool car!

Don't know the guy but he ran a 65 Belvedere 273 2 bbl 4 speed in stock class at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Haven't been out there in years, may still be around.

When I was contemplating my 65 Dart wagon’s engine possibilities, my choices were just 2 (because that’s what I had on hand) - a 65 slant or a 66 273/235. My youngest son (who is in his early 40’s) pleaded with me to not use the slant, even with the triple Weber setup I own. He said my vision of a 1 of none panel wagon deserved a V8, especially since I had a complete 273/235 motor. In the end I will be using the 273 in basically a stock configuration other than a mild performance cam. And yes, it will dressed out like a Charger 273 - even the air cleaner pie pan will say that - thanks @65dartcharger for reproducing them!

I like one of the comments from readers that says they rev to 8500.:lol:

Many times the major factor. I have always believed in using what ya got,and try to make the best of it.

if all I had was the slant, I would have used it. As it was I already had some machine work done on it - block decked 90 thou head cut 10 thou and over bored 30 thou. I will likely use it with the triple Weber setup in my 47 or with a 2 barrel in ny 87 D100

Yes! I spent WAY more $ than I should had and mine went to 8k once Lots of horsepower on the Dyno at that rpm but i decided for the sake of my mechanical valve train I lightened up the springs and she spins happily at 6k now.

Smart. A lot of people don't take the weakest link into consideration when they build. Your 273 should last forever at that rpm, maybe even another 500 rpm.
