Aftermarket alternator mounting bracket for 1970 340

If it was me, I would cut that corner off, take some mild steel of the same thickness and using some cardstock, make a paper pattern for a new corner that is a bit larger, grind the edges to be welded at 45* and butt weld from both sides, drill a hole and your done.

Your idea can certainly be done. I have a mig and the material. It's just the idea of spending the money and getting crap. I'm tired of spending money. I think I can speak for a lot of people. Want what I paid for.

Oh I hear you...Just trying to save you a little money and get you past this one stupid hole. I know it is very frustrating!

I wouldnt blame the brackets you purchased just yet, the onus is on you to know what year of parts you have to start with. I realize its frustrating. Got links/part #'s?
Your w/p is 70 and up. Are your heads oem? Did you order 70+ brackets?

The engine is a 70 model with original cast iron "O" heads and aluminum water pump. Ordered bracket accordingly to fit 70 or later with aluminum water pump. As stated earlier, brackets came from Mancini and 521. Just ordered bracket set from Bouchillon. Will see what they can do. Next will modify bad bracket as suggested. Cut to match, beat to fit and paint to hide.............

Try using the bolt in the head and the lower bolt on bracket to the water pump. You may then just be able to slot the top bracket water pump hole.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but if you enlarge the 2 bolt holes that goes to water pump it will bolt on?

Thanks for the pics. Based on your timing mark location your dealing with a different setup and also your alternator tensioner bracket is mounted differently. Think I use the bottom bracket hole at water pump.

Well need to post an update. Ordered a new cheep $18.00 bracket off ebay. This bracket hole placement is different. By initial observation and fitment, I want to say it will work. Will remount my timing chain cover and water pump just to make sure.

Think your right on. Can't imagine what would happen if they tried to duplicate a more complicated bracket.

Update. Cheepo $18 bracket and tensioner work. Still have order from Bouchillon coming. Will see how they do.

Yep, you go to build an engine for someone, they turn up with the engine and a box of stuff they got on Ebay.
You look in the box, and all you want to do is hand the box back over to them and say " thanks, but that ***** no good to me".

Very disappointed in Bouchillon. Their bracket had same issue. The only bracket, of four suppliers, that fit was from j-k-r-parts. You can find them on ebay. However, they supply triangle and tensioner brackets only; no spacers.

I bought a bolt and spacer kit from Pro Kits... I, for, one, am Totally Disgusted with the junk these crappy importers of China crap... this is BS

Well, i wasn't specifically referring to them, the spacer and bolts they sell are kinda cool, my deal is Mixing the Pulleys AND brackets off my ol 66 273, to a 73 340 (converted to Steel Crank) I have No overheating issues, but that damn Alternator Alignment required me to mill a spacer down... But, Again, mismatched Year parts... from what I read. And the fact that the 66 to 73 was an AC engine... the three grooves are probably heavier than I need, ( I wanted to get to CVS set up, but I didn't jump on em when I Should have) but they Work Darn Good!

It's good to get a chuckle out of this before it's all over. It get's worse. I may have pully set for pre 70 thus I need different alternator bracket set. Will have to go through this all over again.
