Decided to have a nice drive to work yesterday and on my way back home while waiting for a stop light, it just dies and didnt want to crank back up.
Shifted to neutral and pushed it out the way and hoped it was just vapor lock. Opened the hood to let it cool and 2 hours later, same thing, just cranking and doesnt want to turn over. Ended up towing it back home. FML

Usually fuel pumps don't just quit, most of the time, unless electric, give warning signs such as bucking at 50 mph because fuel supply is sufficient to sustain the amount of fuel needed. I would look for the electric gremlin that took you down. But of course easier to remove air cleaner and give it a squirt to eliminate fuel pump.

Cranks but won't start or doesn't crank or turn over? Two completely different issues.

Would it still be a gremlin though if it seems like electronics are working well?

Three things the internal combustion engine needs to run:

Compression
Fuel
Spark

Compression - is probably okay if you didn't hear a bunch of noise before it quit.

Fuel - like @tonysrt said, see if you got fuel pumping into the carb. Easy test.

Spark - more than likely the culprit. What ignition system do you have?

I had that happen to me when I was doing shake-down runs on my Barracuda build this spring. The problem ended up being the spade connector on my MSD Coil was loose, and not making good contact. Put ring eye on the wires and tightened them down.

If it just quit with no warning, I'd look at electrical / ignition.

Dont forget the magnetic pick up coil inside distributor. Happened to my dad once. His case he came home for lunch. Parked his 318 1976 Ramcharger. When he went to go back to work cranked but nothing. Pick up coil was toast!

Good question. I'll have to check and report back

Lots of things to test, thanks to all the input given. I'll be reporting back once we zero in on what caused it.

Diagnosis showed it to be the Distributer. Before I go to Summit and look for other people's reviews, can you guys recommend one for a 360 that has a good track record?

What part of distributor failed?
Only a couple things that would kill spark inside... points n condenser...or the magnetic pickup. If those are good...its outside of the distributor.

The guy said the amps came back with 0 so it most likely shorted.

Resistance is what you're looking for in the magnetic pick up, and on n off continuity with points. Who's working on it?
Buy a summit brand if you want...but what I'm saying is ...the distributor is a serviceable unit you can fix for 40 bucks or less.

A shop near where I live. I guess they dont do that service so I think I'll just replace the entire thing for some false peace of mind.
