Highest flowing sbm heads?

"Big ego, hurt feelings, n/a, turbo, gen 3 hemis, turtles", I think this thread has it all lol. To the op you can make allot more power with boost on a stock block and make it live when done correctly. I would not take a stock block and try the same power levels n/a, for me that's about 600ish and that's with a good sonic tested block. And all these guys "running fast on junk parts" with small blocks is not magic, as has been said over and over if you take the weight of the car and the mph most are around the 600 mark. Now ask how much time and/or money was invested to get the engine there. Unless you got allot of time/passion and skills it isn't the cheap and easy way to go, hell even most of the guys that can do it will tell you that, its mostly because the class rules dictate it.

What a load of Rubbish. Some how magically though all those guys with exotic after market blocks with W heads with offset rockers this and that with Roller cams didn't spend any money and made more power everytime.......

Do you really think you can just bolt parts together and make power because you chose better parts?

You now speak for everyone too? Dan Smith has multiple cars running 9's with what most would not consider performance part. All those cars are 3000+ LBS and 1 set of heads only flowed 275 cfm but makes over 600Hp so that's more than 2 hp per cfm.

I never recall seeing a brand X sm block w/ junkyard heads anywhere near my e.t. at or near 3060lbs. I chase alcohol burning, roller cammed, aluminum headed sm block chevys all the time.

Imagine if he could run Alchohol, a Roller Cam and Aluminium Heads......So unfair poor Dan :rofl:
 
I know this a little off topic but you guys have said mopar guys are cheap skates and if you want to go fast on the cheap buy a chev! Well back in the day in Aus we had most guys were GM crazy or to be correct GMH (Holden) I had a mate and Bewdys mate also that was racing a Holden in the six cylinder class. He blew the motor up after spending a fortune on the set up but he did have a S model Valiant for his tow car. Well he raced the tow car and went faster than his race car. That converted him to mopar and as the early model class was for early holden engines, early falcon and early Valiant ( slant six) engines the national record for that class was held by an FJ holden with sideplater six with triple webers etc and was a light vehicle probably about 2000 lbs and was 15.1 seconds. Well my mate put a 4 barrel and headers and a hot cam in his Valiant and smashed the national record to 13.5 seconds. I had a VJ charger ex police car 265 hemi , 4speed. As a young apprentice earning about 60 bucks a week A guy that wanted to race me had a Holden Torana , my brother bought me a 4 barrel factory manifold and factory headers second hand and I put it on my charger and ran consistent 14.7 s all day long. A fellow who wanted to kick my arse with his holden torana had a 202 engine with triple webbers a monsterous cam that would be spitting fuel out the throats of the carbs at idle and they only weighed about 2000 lbs He raced me and I flogged him, he ran high 15s. Yes there was a fast Holden that held records at the time and he told me he spent five grand on the cyl head at the time and as the average wage in aus for a mech at the time was $150 a week and now we pay the average tradesman about $1500 plus overtime that head job is worth fifty grand in todays money. Hell I changed my engine to a low milage 360, just put 340 pistons in it , a 650 holley and home made headers (i was a nineteen year old apprentice) at the time and ran 13.7 qtrs against hot Falcon 351s and 350 Monaros and would flog them with a car that had a standard cam in it as my mechanic father would not let me put a reground cam in it as he said it destroyed the rocker arm angles and I had to wait until I could source a billet grind from the states which at the time was very hard to get. So my cheap arse mopar would destroy the megabuck builds from GM and Ford. Bewdy remembers this.

So basically what your saying is that in the past, you raced a bunch of wood ducks?
Obviously you never ran Peters G pack Torana, that thing ran 11's with a 308.

Here he is later on with the EK Ute. Still only a 308.

He would also probably like to attend the NNN's where he could rub elbows with the rest of worlds super geniuses whose cars run high 7's and mid 8 second 1/8th mile passes and whom are teaching everyone else how to build a car, LOL, and after working on someone's car helped fill the crank case with gas and hurt the engine....but you probably already know my stance on that event as I made it quite clear on Mopar Al's channel.....LOL.......have a good one.

Why are you digging on a guy putting out content for all our enjoyment, and doing it on the cheap?

Where's your content? Looks to me like you got a steal of a deal on one of brett millers engines and are now lording your supreme status over other people less fortunate than yourself. Believe it or not, some people want to go fast at a budget lower than yours.
 
And for those that have question the "cost" of the 485 "net hp" 6.4, I went on market place and found one all complete for 700 bucks. Has warranty as well.

BTW, why are you even bringing up the Gen lll stuff in a thread about LA heads? As far as this thread goes, I think the OP got exactly what he was looking for, and it had nothing to do with heads.
 
Where's your content? Looks to me like you got a steal of a deal on one of brett millers engines and are now lording your supreme status over other people less fortunate than yourself. Believe it or not, some people want to go fast at a budget lower than yours.
It wasn't a Brett Miller engine, he has worked on it since then and has built another engine for me and is building 2 more as we speak and I work hard for my money and have the right to spend it how I please, I only share straight to the point advice on topics I feel I can add value...problem is most guys want fairy dust blown softly up their *** instead of the cold hard truth of which I am the latter. Going fast on a lower budget is fine and I do actually have a stock block 360 stroker that has a short fill in it that I'm working on now since it drew no interest when I tried to sell it so F it I will put it in my Demon......but even with that engine I refuse to put cheap parts on it....they never work right, fit right, last how they should and you end up spending more in the end after you learn that lesson. I have a You Tube channel but it's not for money I just post up some vids of my cars racing, or dyno sessions or cruising around so it would not appeal to some and I rarely put up content as it is just for fun.
 
Dan Smith is a good guy and the stuff he builds runs a lot harder than it should, at least harder than most think it should. Dan is also a very good racer, when he comes to Paducah, he'll run box (with no box) and no box and when he's on he'll beat the box guys foot braking. It's not uncommon for him to be in the money in both classes.

I don't understand why some people have a problem with this. Hot rodding has always had fanatics that run the full income spectrum. Get in where you fit in and enjoy the ride.

I should have known my jealous trolls would be showing up, lol.......Ummmm excuse me can you find 1 posting or reply that I ever stated I build my own engines??? Yeah you wont because number 1 I am busy with other things and number 2 there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE in building a 375 hp engine and it lives at max 5800 rpm and a 950 plus hp engine that sees mid 8k on the regular....if you don't understand that then that is on you. I am in process of building the new Demon engine from the short block up as the short block has been done now for a while and then redone again because of incompetent Chevy machine shop. I do my own rear gear changes in my S60, just replace the front band in my 904 when it broke...not a huge deal granted, I do all the wiring and assembly on my cars and fix/maintain them plus tune them engine wise and chassis wise so your comments are incredibly out of line but as expected from you. I also have 9 cars I am actively buying parts for and working on so at times due to that progress from someone looking in from the outside can seem slow and I DO NOT BUY CHEAP **** PARTS....EVER......so that can slow things down some too not only from a financial standpoint but also parts availability deal. Furthermore I am blessed to have some of the most knowledgeable people in the muscle car/racing industry as my friends and I call upon THEM FOR ADVICE as I trust what they say without question....I can't say the same for most on here.....there are a few I respect and trust their advice but far more that I never ever would. You only learn from those smarter than you in this world....wasting time with those below you from a learning standpoint is just that....wasting time.

I explained why.....I also said I am finishing up the 415" in the near future as I now have the Bloomer heads, head studs, still waiting on some other parts and a couple tools to degree the cam in.....I can do it on average power engines but I will choose not to on high power high rpm builds and will smartly leave that to the experts...or in my opinion they are experts.
