Went to the dentist today for a couple of fillings. While I was there they gave me a estimate for a bridge for 4 teeth at a cost of $4,400 out of my pocket. I'm maxed out on my dental insurance which would have paid a grand, whoopie do. I could buy a extra policy for $165 a month, but I'm tired of paying on all of these insurance policies. Dental insurance has paid only a grand for like 40 years, this needs to change especially for the retirees such as myself. I don't know how people can afford to see a dentist

Be happy you have some dental insurance....Many people do not.
Id like to see any dental expenditures being able to be deducted regardless of what was spent, id think that since its health issue and dental work is expensive, it would only be fair
Not holding my breath though

I am. If they are on Medicare, they can get a policy from a insurance company that provides dental insurance. The cost is what Medicare charges, I pay a $170 a month for medical, dental, glasses. I wish that they would improve on what the dental part pays, a grand a year is a joke.

Sign up for Affleck is next month

Do the math, compare what you would pay them for a year with what they would pay towards your bridge and see if yoy come out on top

The dentist is nothing but a RIP off. You'll never convince me that it cost $300 plus to pull a tooth.

Well clearly you’re an expert, next time you need a tooth pulled just jack it out with a dirty pair of pliers.

I bet you figure out what that $300 buys you really quick!

You think that 300 bucks is reasonable? Your probably not on a fixed income either. 4400 for a partial bridge sound good to you

Most dentists in this area are telling people that have medicare plans that have dental coverage that they are not going to accept it anymore. Imagine that. Insurance you can't use.

Yeah actually I think $300 for an extraction is pretty reasonable.

The equipment needed costs money, cleaning that equipment costs money, the anesthetic and/or anesthesia costs money, pain killers to take home, plus the possibility of stitches or antibiotics. And that doesn’t get into the skills the dentist needs to have so you don’t bleed out or get an infection, or the rent on the building, malpractice insurance, etc.

Clearly you don’t have the foggiest idea some of the things that go into even a “simple” procedure.

But hey, I’m sure you’ve got a pair of pliers in the garage so next time do it yourself! Cheap and easy! Well, as long as you don’t get an infection and go septic. And let’s not worry about the pain part.

Also, have you ever started a thread that wasn’t complaining about something? Like ever?

C’mon now, surely you don’t want affordable health care?

Do you have any idea what it costs to run a dental practice? Its more than the dentist just pulling your tooth and yes $4400 for the kind of bridge you need may be the going rate
First it was the economy and how everybody is suffering and now its a ***** and moan about how much dental work costs, yeah we all know its expensive

I'm not bitchin about price man. They are flat out REFUSING medicare coverage.

I nice set of wooden teeth fits the bill, you could either paint them factory yellow or white. lol
Hardwood is what you want for longevity.

Was it worth it? If not, don't go to that dentist ever again. Life is full of choices. The price may be high, but they'll charge whatever the market will bear. Otherwise, they'd be out of business.

I heard you.

And as long as they can get more money from private insurance they will continue to refuse Medicare because private insurance will give the providers more money.

I mean, we could properly fund Medicare, but that’s gonna cost a ton of money no one wants to pay either. It’s almost like we need to overhaul the way we do healthcare.

Or just pay for private health insurance or with a big stack of cash.

I just got hit in the face last week with a pry bar. I broke 1 tooth and damaged the nerve so they ended up pulling thr tooth as it could not be repaired. I have dental coverage and the extraction was $28. The bridge I was told would cost me $1500 at the high end for 3 tooth bridge and when I got there for my 2nd appointment they said it would be $4600 because insurance doesnt want to cover cosmetic repairs. I said excuse me, what do you think ALL DENTAL WORK IS, it is literally all cosmetic that is the point of it! So now I spent $458 on a temporary flipper tooth out of pocket because ya know..not covered by insurance. Idk it's way to much money for what its worth. If it happens again im gonna spend the 30k on dental implants and never worry again about damage again because they are covered for life from the place my buddy went to. I shoulda left it. i had no pain at all. each to there own in the dental world definitely look at other places. Your bigger dental practices are usually cheaper than the mom n pop dentistry

assuming this pry bar incident is work related workers comp insurance should cover it.

Don`t forget they have to pay the 3-4 women that`s setting on their *** doing the paper work and phone calls etc.

This whole thread is people complaining about things they clearly don’t know anything about.

So I guess you’re an expert in medical billing then? Because medical billing is ridiculous. It’s very complicated, especially for Medicare, which is another reason why so many providers drop Medicare patients.

I only see a tiny bit of it when I write patient care reports as a paramedic, and just keeping up with the little bit I’m responsible for is a royal pain in the ***. And it’s constantly changing and getting more complicated to prevent fraud.
