NO Boost or Bottle ... ... any door cars going 10's on a 3.31 stroke 318 ?? .030 or .060 over fine, but the 318 block and 318 stroke
  • I know we have 11 second street car 318's
  • Asking because I am "pondering"
  • IF you are in the 10's, care to share your combo ??
 
Playing with the calculators..... Online calculator says 447 hp to run 10.99 in a 3000 lbs car ..... That would be with the ideal converter and gears, I get that.
So is the question 447 hp obtainable? That is 1.4 hp per cubic inch. I would think yes.
 
the enginemasters 318 I have posted about on here many times( and raced) went 11.60’s at 3400 pounds on super stock springs, flat hood, etc, etc.
it had a much smaller flat tappet cam than it made 477 on the dyno with at enginemasters. 230@50 compared to 247 as dyno’ed
At 3000 pounds and going to a roller cam, I think it would have dipped into the 10’s fairly easily. I ran 4.10 gear. More gear and convertor would have helped too, but it was a dual purpose car.

edit..that was 10.4 compression. Couple more points in compression should make notably more torque and horsepower

It can be done, the only question is, can and will you do it. :D

well, yes, it would cost some. If you remember, I did a thread on a "screamin' 318" or something like that. The idea has not left me, and I have a roller 318 (1985) sitting on the stand. I have other key components, like heads as well. I don't think it would be a barrel down the hole to add a few things such as pistons, and I'm not sure it would have to spin anything more than 6500-6800 rpms, in which case the cast crank may hold on. I think it would be fun and put it in the '76 Duster and see what happens. All speculation at this point. I'm not even saying 10.99 would be a goal, but THIS thread was to see what there was for combos (if any), but rather just a place to start for good combos

I'd like to see you build it. I think you would need a cam in the 255 @ .050 range, a cylinder head over 300cfm and at least 11.1 compression.
I think you'd have to spin it 7400+

3400 with me in it( I am 330)
car was bench seat full interior all steel 71 Duster with ugly painted steel bumpers( bought it as a roller, never changed them out.)
no cage, just frame connectors

that enginemasters 318 I spoke of earlier I shifted at 6200.
with the enginemasters cam(247@50) it peaked at 6500.
the heads were PLENTY to support 10’s. They went low/ mid 270’s at 600 lift.
no need to buzz it more than 66-6800 to have run 10’s.
I thought about keeping the motor to prove 10’s.. but I am not a fan at all of magnum stuff. Don’t like the Chevy style top end.

If an NHRA stock class 2 barrel 318 can run mid 11’s which it does, 10’s are obtainable with $$$$. Steve Dulsich has built a few 400+ teeners in mag articles.

NEVER trust online calculators! 100 percent wrong on my combo!

How much work do you want to do? I can tell you what you need. It’s not hard.

You can do it on iron heads IF you dont mind grinding. You need a single plane intake. At least 1.750 headers. 1.875 would be better.

You‘ll need to be in the 285ish cam range. No less than 11:1 compression.

You need to make power at 7k and shift at 7400-7500, so you need a GOOD oil pan with the biggest diameter pick up you can find. The Milodon Super Stock pan is the BEST choice. Good luck finding one. I have two. With the near impossible to find pick ups.

You should have pistons without tractor rings. 1/16 rings should be the thickest ring you should have and an .043 or 1 mm ring would be better.

The rest is getting the valve job right, the round stuff round and the straight stuff straight.

I agree. I have been considering using a stock class cam

You have a 318 2bbl in Stock class ??
 
Get an early truck block that can stand a .090 overbore that has a steel crank and run these pistons at zero or positive deck.
Sportsman Racing Products 345794 . Along with all the things Rat Bastid mentioned. I myself would probably be considering some W2s.

W2's would be a bit more than I'd care to spend on this particular project. The other thing is I'd use the engine I already have, which is the '85 roller engine.
 
And the main reason I said "10 second all motor" was to get some wild 318 builds in here to ponder over, not the "600 holley on a performer and 340 cam" 318. Not that 10.99 would be my goal. Post 3 was a good example.
 
I definitely think it can be done. Just build a Mopar copy of a SEGA Chevy gasser engine.... lots of cam, lots of head, lots of compression, and LOTS of rpm. (and don't forget.... lots of $$$)
There are a couple SEGA mopars running 273s that are close to that, I think. Of course, they are losing to the guys with pro built $20,000 9500 rpm, iron head 283 chevies.
 
Mind you, I can’t see that cheater cam and stupid loose converter being anywhere near being street able. The guy also runs a B body with the same combination and runs within tenths of the A body. So I’m thinking it’s not all that big of a weight issue.

yeah, I guess if I do this I won't worry too much about street manners, but the car is licensed and insured (as they all are).

How long is the list? Lights, wipers, and exhaust? Oh and a set of licence plates.
