@toolmanmike kroger is definitely ripping people off here meat wise. Check this out:

I went to the Navy commissary yesterday, pickup a few things:

Tyson Brand Chicken Breast at Kroger- 5.99/lb this morning

Tyson Brand Chicken Breast at Commissary-2.89/lb

Same thing on the rest of the meats. Smithville bacon is 1.99 a pound!
Our commissary prices have risen a lot but since they are subsidized they are still cheaper than Safeway/Haggens

Remember commisary is just a 5% mark up.

Curious what are egg prices? Farm is at 3.20 now supermarket around 4.50 I think. Avian flu they had to destroy around 4 million hens in just PA so that has a lot to do with it also.

3.97 a dozen on base, 4.99 at Kroger

I live 1.5 miles from the HQ of Rose Acre Farms, the largest egg producer in the world. Went to school with their current CEO Anthony and his brothers.

They had to kill over 20 million chickens due to that. Employees are now required to wear full disposable suits and covers on their shoes . They spray all vehicles entering and exiting with a bleach solution now.

Really doubt to here. Just on base?
This one said within 25 miles of the nearest commissary. It’s like a 15 dollar fee.

You can also pre-order and pick up right on the dock if you wanted as well. The preorder and pick up is free

I am around 40 miles. Hell the only delivery we get here is the mail!

Yep sounds like a rip off. A large package of Chicken breasts here are $2.97/#. Yet the Tyson brand at the same store is $4.48/#

Remember who owns Tyson foods and Johneson now. Notice all the pork is pink and not red? Pretty nasty actually.

$4.14 a dozen here. I had heard regarding the bird flu epidemic, they can butcher the chickens and the meat is ok to sell but the eggs are not. Shortage of eggs, no shortage of butchered chickens.

Can't wait for the warm weather?
For those heading to a tropical climate a note from Dr Seuss.

Just saw this for sale and thought it was pretty neat.

Locally in this vally we have been luck so far. It would hurt us alot there are at least two egg producers here. One has a Costco contract.

Depends on the age of the chicken. There’s a federal law that limits the age for chickens for butcher to something ridiculously young. It’s like 18 months give or take if I recall right

There’s 15 million egg laying hens 1.5 miles from me and we currently are paying some of the highest egg prices in the Midwest

I have not paid full price in a long time prob 10 years. Neighbors have them they give us then that farm sells them also.

This casino is right next to a refinery and there are 3 within 60 miles, we have some high gas prices locally and statewide. Definitely cheaper in Idaho/Montana

I am also not far from 2 big hatcheries, one is a rose acre farms facility, (Donovan IL) not sure about the other one, who's facility that one is. (Near Paxton IL) my son has a dozen chickens in his yard I get mine from him... As a kid I used to go to work with my older brother and sister, was an egg farm a few miles from home ( nowhere near as big as the rose acre one) I also heard there was a huge fire at an egg farm out east (PA I think?) A week or 2 ago they lost something like a 1/2 million chickens or some such huge numbers
