This is about the factory heel plate that came with the 4 speed cars. Question is - is anyone re-installing these with their new carpets or going without ? Was also asking which carpet did you use if you did re-attached it ? Pretty sure the A bodies of 1964-66 were the only Mopars that got these. Picture attached......

That’s what I experienced too. Couldn’t get it mounted in the carpet correctly and it stuck out too far. I even modified my 4 speed hump but gave up.

You almost need to shave the carpet and install the guard with the carpet out to get it in correctly.

Where does that plate go, and what is its purpose? I'm converting my 65 Barracuda from automatic to 4 speed. Just wondering if it is really necessary?

I still have the original carpet in my 66. I don't have one but the shifter was replaced with a Hurst back in the day and the floor pan was modified for it.

It is attached to the carpet where your foot would wear the carpet against the 4 speed hump. My 64 Barracuda had one, it is not needed. I intend to add it to my 66 Formula S.

Thanks. I can understand that it might be needed back in the day when they were just cars, that it would help preserve the carpet. When I get mine done, I'll probably only be wearing flip flops or be barefooted while driving it!

I’d like to hear more responses on this subject. My 66 did not have this plate

I replaced the carpet in my car back in the mid seventies because the previous owner let cigarettes drop and make a bunch of burn marks on it. I took the plate out then. When I put new carpet again a few years ago I went without it again so my original protector is listed in the classified adds :)

My mistake on 1966 - I can see them not getting one because of the console - but I'm guessing they didn't come on the non-1966 cars ? I'll try and get a picture of where they go on my 1965 - have a buddy getting close for carpet after a 1965 4sp conversion. I have extra plates from older scraping.

When I bought my 65 Dart GT 4 speed a year ago it had that plate on the carpet.
I looked at 100's of pics of 65 Darts and only seen 1 car with the plate.
So, I thought it was something the previous owner bought or made.
Damn if I didn't toss it with the carpet:BangHead:
