66 383 2bbl from a 66 C body Fury II

B= 1966 model year
383 = displacement
Maltese cross = 0.001" undersized crank shaft
1 19 2 = Jan 19 1966, second shift?
R = Regular fuel (thanks 413)

(In the photo there looks like a 4 in front of the 2 but with the naked eye I can't see it.)

Block casting

Forged date = 12-16-65
N >D =Day shift
Circular dots = 1:00pm (based on 6 am start plus 7 hours?)

LL = ?

Casting number 2468130-5

Kind of cool the block was cast about a month before it was assembled

Appears to be a run of the mill 383 casting

Anything else I should be looking for or at?

I don't plan on using it for a few years so I plan on being sure no water is in the block and then MAYBE keep cleaning the outside.

Plan is to use it in my 67 Dart Convert #2 and make a GTS clone.

Look at front of block just below the head left side. Are there two threaded holes for mounting accessories ?

To use stock 1967 a body mounts and K member it will need these 2 bosses and threaded holes above the oil pump area for the left side mounting bracket. Does it have these bosses?.

Yep! (It's the little things)

I assume these are not going to work on A Body
Are they desirable for the B - C People?

Pass on left
Drivers on right

Now for some bits and pieces

1 grounded field round back
2 auto trans column shift Z bar bracket?
3 AC adjuster ?
4 AC idler?
5 Power steering pump
6 grounded field round back with adjuster and a bracket.
Round green circle - misc parts ( I'm guessing not from the engine or car)

The car will not have AC or power steering just an alternator.

Will any of the parts be useful for that?

The Alternator with the adjuster looks usable but the bracket I assume would have bolted to the AC bracket

I assume I can get an Alternator only (OEM style) bracket and crank (OEM style) single pulley

that'll be a great project when you get to it. i'd say junk nothing you have until the full mockup is complete. even then i keep leftovers as 'they may come in handy one day', lol.
neil.

It's hard for me to tell if that is a C or B body mount from that angle, did the DS use those two front mounting bosses on the block? A and C bodies both used the oddball lugs, B bodies did not. I know '65 C body brackets are useable for A body mounting, not sure about '66s- I'm not very well versed in C body particulars.
Great score on the engine, though! This will give you time to source out the 4 bbl. pieces and the hard-to-find air cleaner. Very cool that you want to keep it factory-looking.

I'm assuming you meant 1966? :)

The engine mount brackets fit BCE body 1966-1972

The rest is all A/C only specific B and C body 1960-1968.

The Maltese cross simply denotes undersize. Not a specific undersize. It's just there to let you know it does have undersizes somewhere on the crank. I've even seen .010 on the rods before. Maybe got bumped somewhere on the assembly line or the crank grinder got happy? Who knows.

Now if someone wants to donate a couple 67 BB exhaust manifolds

If I have to I'll go 68-69

When I was moving the engine some water came out of the lower hose, Brown.

Ruh Roh!

I pulled the block drain plugs and green coolant came out.

I'm probably ok.

There is little to no oil in the pan but I'll drain that next week and see what it looks like

LL = low deck/large bore. Could be other way around. The 4.25 bore of a 383 is the largest bore for a B block.

RB will have an R on one of those positions,

Now that's the first I've read or heard of anything that might make sense. I've had a few 400s though and they were without that.

They quit doing it before the 400s came along.
I kinda figured that mightta been the case. I find it really interesting all the castings and codes they used through the years to keep track of stuff.
