Does anyone know of a place in the Phoenix AZ area I can take a 67 Barracuda to have the glass installed properly? I'm running into folks who want to install the gasket dry, and the butyl sealant under the lip afterwards. Half of them start crying when you mention butyl instead of urethane. Completely wrong from how the FSM describes the installation process. Even tried one of the most recommended places here for doing classic cars. He didn't want to do it after discussing how the factory did it. I have new gaskets, new windshield, and reusing the rear glass. I know it's not rocket science. But sometimes my lack of patience ends up costing me more. Any recommendations?
Thanks

I always had the guy in the mirror work on my cars . Only guy I could find to do it the way I wanted, didn't rape me on price and always had a free warranty on his work.

67 is one year only, with limited proper repop availability. Make sure you have correct parts. The gasket should be a Precision product(other suppliers too), as is the lockstrip which only 1 mfg makes and that is Precision.
A good knowledgable member here Richard/RPM440+6 sells the proper pieces
Good luck.

Thanks. I literally build everything on my cars, with the exception of headliners and front and rear glass. Only because screwing up any of those items is too easy, and rather expensive. If I can't find someone who knows old mopars like this, I'll be addressing this one myself too.

I've upgraded to the 68-69 gasket from Precision, installed the new trim clips from Detroit Muscle, and found a really nice set of rear window trim($$$). Stole the front trim from my Dart Swinger project.
Thanks

What is the full name for Precision? I’m interested in getting the best gaskets/seals I can. Thanks.

You can get them from most bigger parts dealers. I'm pretty sure DTM/Detroit Muscle sells them. I know I bought one for the back glass of my 65 Barracuda from them at The Mopar Nationals last year.

I've r&r'd multiple front and rear glass out of necessity, aka, no one knows what they're doing anymore and I'm broke.

I was amazed at how easy it was, a little nerve racking, but that is required to do it correctly.

On my 62 Dart, the fsm stated to put the windshield on top first, impossible.
I tried it bottom first, had it in within 20 minutes.

Plastic scrapers, cord for inside the rubber, something that won't fray and will stretch, spray bottle with soapy water.

I made a few boring videos of it if needed.

I'll be doing my 67 Barracuda in a few, with 68 stuff.

Thanks. I actually just finished up doing the windshield. Wasn't too bad at all. May have went a little overboard on the butyl sealant. But other than being a bit messy, it came out fine. I'll let the butyl cure overnight, and leak test tomorrow. The fastback rear window is the one that will have me suicide watch....lol

I have installed dozens of front and rear windshields on older cars like ours. I have NEVER used any sealant at all, and I have never had a leak. Make sure everything is clean, pop the glass into the gasket, put water into a spray bottle and add several drops of dish washing soap to it, spray the groove that goes over the metal lip around the windshield opening liberally with the soapy water, insert heavy twine in the gasket groove you just squirted the soapy water into, squirt the metal lip that the gasket will slip over lightly with the soapy water, place the windshield with the gasket installed against the opening and finally pull the rope/twine slowly to pull the gasket over the metal lip. This is a high-level overview. There are lots of videos on YouTube that show the process. Like I said, I have never had a leak. Did they use a sealant at the factory?

I had paid a glass installer to install both front and rear. And both glasses leaked like crazy. With all the imperfections in the fence, spot welds, waves, small pits...I don't see how it could not leak without a sealant. The FSM manual calls for sealant in both fence and glass channels. Plus, there is a 3/8 bed of sealant in the cowl channel. These gaskets do not use a fence seal across the cowl side. Blame Chrysler for this one.

All the windshields I have done had sealant.

First, I fixed any holes in the window channel, used Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, then paint.

I used CRL 7708 (in place of the 3M 08509 that is no longer available) between the gasket and the car, and Permatex 81730 between the gasket and the windshield.

My Dart had a drain hole within the windshield gasket, both sides, at the bottom back corner.

My Coronet did not, so I drilled holes.

On both, iirc, I sealed up all the gaskets anyway as I had water within them when removed.
So they're all sealed with drain holes at the lowest sections.

Thanks for the info. I used the CRL 7708 in both gasket channels. Probably not the best choice for the glass to gasket, but hopefully it'll be okay. Hope to do the rear window this weekend. I can't believe the "Glass Gods" who acted like I was crazy when I said you're supposed to put sealant in the gasket channels. Like I was in the Twilight Zone or something.
