Don’t even know where to begin

as long as the kickdown lever at the trans' is at full travel when the carb' is at full throttle you should be ok. also check the trans lever is roughly at half travel with the carb at idle.
neil.

I may have bigger problems than the kickdown adjustment. I’ll attach a photo once I get some time, went to take the car for a spin around the block, mind you, less than a half mile.
Trans didn’t wanna shift out… tried to engage 2nd gear manually.. nothing… tried to put some pedal into it, and heard a loud clunk and then car died and had to put it in park to restart and just pulled it back into the garage last night. Bad trans? Kickdown need more adjustment? Not sure. Kickdown is at full travel when the cars throttle is all the way back and at around half travel when at idle

The clunk and dying isn’t a confidence builder…….

I’d go with the two easiest things first…….
Is there enough fluid in it?
If so, I’d back off the kickdown cable a bit.

Get the rear end on some jackstands.

Start out with the shifter pulled all the way into low gear……bring rpm up to around 2k or so, and select 2nd.
There should be a noticeable shift happening after the lever is moved.

If that doesn’t happen the next thing I’d do is verify the shift linkage is properly adjusted.

If it is, then you might have deeper problems.

may be too far. that leaver doesn't necessarily have to go all the way back in order for it to shift correctly. may have to put some slack in that cable
