A new Dart Owner

-
Good day,

Looking forward to finding useful information about a 1970 Dodge Dart im picking up today.
Red 2dr bench seat 318 4spd. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Was a old racecar that wasn't hacked apart. Excited to take on the Mopar side as I am a diehard chevy guy but I don't discriminate. V8 and 4 speeds make me happy no matter the car.

Travelling 4 hours 1 way after work, Ill post more photos tomorrow.

All I know so far is it hasn't been registered since 2011 from Vin search and it needs a fuel tank. Ran when parked.

Welcome. A GT Nice!

Welcome. A GT Nice!
Thank you! Got it running on its own off the gas can last night. Patched the fuel tank and added some into it just before work. Going to try get it to run on from its own tank. Stripping the seats out and going to weld in spots on the floor that look like they were not factory. Then paint and carpet it this weekend hopefully!

You have my curiosity up! Your front bench seat is not original to your car. The back seat is. I have never seen a bench seat 1970 GT before, and since the front seat isn't original, I wonder if yours was originally a bucket seat car. There is an easy way to tell. Bench seat cars come with holes drilled in the floor for the four bench seat studs. Bucket seat cars have 8 holes - four for each of the bucket seat's studs, and then the bench seat holes have a rubber plug in them. All the floor pans are the same with holes where the bench seat goes and dimples that they drill out in assembly, when buckets are specified. I bet your car has 8 bucket holes in the floor pan and didn't come with bench seats. I'll hunt up a picture so you know where to look. If you had the carpet up there would be four bucket seat reinforcement plates welded to the floor.

I did see some extra holes under the bucket and some reinforcement plates underneath the bench when I was looking.

If you ever decide to go back to buckets the seat frames are the same as a 1970 Challenger and are available new, and then seat covers to match your back ones from Legendary.

My 68 GT had a bench when I bought it but I knew they came with buckets… the reinforcement plates were there. I would have liked some stock buckets but they’re pretty pricey even in rough shape. I put some TMI buckets in it instead.. congrats on the new hot rod!

also makes me think that my car doesn’t have the original column.. unless ya could of have had a column shift bucket seat GT in 68

What a great car....... I went through the butchered up floor, Trans mount..... (Yes someone even torched the trans mount) ........glad to have you aboard

I’ve had a few 67 dart GTs with buckets and consol and with buckets and column shift. I also had a 68 GT with buckets and consol. Kim

I list it for sale as I want to buy a house. I am planning on working on the car until it sells. The more work I put into it the more I can sell it for in theory. I wont just sit on it and let it sell on its own. Always trying to do better. Also the car is beautiful so if things do work out and I dont sell it I have a sweet Dart! Lol
