Happy September!
I need help figuring out an issue with my 904 transmission, that is original to my 1974 Dart.

In PRND, all is well.
In 2nd, its behaves like it’s in drive.
In 1st the car doesn’t move from a stop and if you downshift to 1st the wheels lock up.

I hoped switching from column, to a b&m Z Gate floor shifter would insure the shift lever was getting it’s proper throw, and possibly solve the issue, but no dice. The Z Gate is properly adjusted, I took my time getting everything right on the install.

I’d like to manually go through the gears, access the higher rpm horsepower, and have the ability to downshift into 2nd and 1st.

I have a TF2 shift kit, yet to be installed, also. Maybe that will solve it? Idk.

Thank you in advance,
Doug

It may be the valve body manual shift valve is stuck. Either way You will know when you install the shift kit.
So nothing with band adjustment that could be done before the shift kit goes in?

The kit and directions are still in the Jegs box. I’ll look for a TF2 video first. Transmission work is new for me.

No band adjustment. If it was you wouldn't have movement in Drive. Low and reverse use the same band and the intermediate band is applied for second gear.

This is suspect that a valve is stuck maybe midway causing both bands being applied at the same time.
Again these are just thoughts.Diagnostics over the internet are tough.

Got it. I appreciate the input. Just watched a TF2 install video also. After 2 days in the rocky, dirt doing the shifter, I’ll let this go until I get motivated for more of the same.
