So I am going crazy locating correct gas cap for my 72 Duster..Cap I have sticks out way to far (shown in pic)...I checked out a pic of caps on this site and the cap I have seems to match the 72-74 caps...the one I have seems to match, but again sticks out too far...Did someone put an earlier fill tube on? Through my research seems to be correct tube though...I have purchased a cap but wont work...do not want to buy caps at random thinking they will work...seems like the earlier pic of caps might be what I need...check out my pics and maybe someone can help me out
Thanks again

It's been a while since I've had a Duster apart, but this is what I come up with for a '72 fill tube:

Pardon Our Interruption...
Doesn't look like yours.
And yours isn't installed correctly- it gets installed from inside the quarter panel with the foam seal sandwiched between the quarter panel and the filler flange. That should take care of the height issue.

This any help? I don't know what year it is and I've only had one '71 A-body and several '73 & newer.

The top looks like what Professor Fate posted and the backside has 2 little tangs that are at the same height/depth.
Also seems to have what use to be part of a side stripe?

Where are the posted cap pics. I've seen it before but can't find it.

ok thanks for the input...I checked out e-bay per your attachment and looking into it
Thanks again

yea,I kinda thought that cap is not correct per your pics...just have to figure out which one will work....there is an aftermarket tube and cap on e-bay,but I want to use the factory tube, guess it is the correct one..It was on the car when I purchased it.Any input would be great
Thanks again for your help

I agree with post #2, sort of. This is a picture of my '72 Dart. I think that you have a wrong filler neck. Think that it does go in from the outside. My '69 goes in from inside of the trunk. Cap may be alright.

My 72 Duster filler neck is installed from the outside. Not sure if a previous owner dis it wrong, but my gas cap doesn't stick out that far.

I believe all the emissions (gas tank evap system) are installed from the outside, as they do not have the 1/4" vent line welded into the tube.
