I recently completed a 360,727,8 3/4 transplant into a 79 Dodge Aspen RT and have found something unusual I've not seen or heard before. The engine started up fine and seems terrific. Soon I began to notice a buzz / Metallic noise I've never heard from inside an engine before after 45 years in car dealerships. Also found that the engine stalls almost immediately when the transmission is put in gear. Could this be caused by the Converter being stuck. I put about a quart and 1/2 of ATF in it before installing it but it is the "affordable one" listed at Summit. Advertised stall speed is 2800. Thought that would be enough. Maybe not or maybe a failure. Any thoughts would be appreciated !!

Had the same happen and it was the converter. Sent it back to Continental Torque Converters.
They called and said the stator locked up. Pan was clean so no particles released. They sent me a new one on their dime. All good.

Thank you for the quick response and advice. Your description sounds like a match and was the only logical conclusion I could come to. Unfortunately the reciept for the converter shows its purchase was years ago. It's been in the box waiting for me to find the time and money to get to this point , so I guess I'm on my own. Thank goodness I now have a plan of attack since this one had me over thinking everything. Again , thanks for the advice !!!

I forgot to say it lasted only about a day. Put it in (4500 stall) and couldn't even drive it into the trailer.
I was on my way to a race in Georgia.
