Looking for some help to ID my problem. 1965 Barracuda, 273 V8, 727. Starts ok but when I put it in reverse, a big lurch/jump and dies. I can sometimes work through it if I catch it right and give it gas but not easy. It has slowly wanted to die for a while now while idling. Now its gotten not driveable. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Oh man, cant answer that Im afraid. Not sure how too. Outing my lack of expertise

If the motor is well tuned, and the curb idle is correct.....look to the converter or possibly even the valve body. Are either aftermarket??

Well, that's VERY BASIC knowledge for an antique car enthusiast, so I suggest you read up and learn something new. Having said that, has it ever run good or is this a new vehicle you've gotten that doesn't run well? We need to start somewhere.

Do you mean it is ok in Drive, but stalls in Rev?

If so, not a converter problem. Suspect something inside the 727.

Need more info.

have you checked your grounds?
Is it making a ground thru the drivetrain and looses it when out in reverse and the engine moves?

Timing or vacuum leak.

That's where I'd start.

Unplug the vacuum advance and plug the hose set the idle and See what happens. Also your torque converter may be to low of a stall for you engine combination.

@IvanH. Hang in there with us and we'll do our best to help. Think of FABO like a garage, a bunch of guys (and s few gals) hanging out working on cars, and giving each other a bunch of ****. You wouldn't feel part of it if you aren't getting razzed.

Start by answering RRR's question. Has it ever run great since you have owned it?
