Having made my own exhaust gaskets, make a few sets. Your first one or two will be okay, the next few will be better. Then you’ll have spares for when you need em quick for tearing into something and don’t have to spend time making them in the middle of a thrash.

Funny thing happened, I took a little time and trimmed out the port opening on some .060 thick gaskets and plopped Frankenstein back on it, the port floors still looked just fine.
Before I bolt these down I'm going to trace them out on some aluminum plate.

Well that’s pretty handy, nice!
I should mention they're gaskets from Hughes. I like the gaskets and they're nice quality but they're extremely fragile and is why I deem it necessary to make some out of aluminum and I'll either copper coat them or just ultra grey them in place

The block is back in the truck heading back to work to get hard blok in the cooling jackets after a tiny bit of port matching.
After the hard block cures I'll hone the cylinders hopefully a couple tenths is all that's needed and then line hone to fix a couple things I sorta messed up with an aggressive file and sanding my caps lol, no big deal !
Ended up #1 with .0009 clearance not good #2 .0014 also not good.
3,4,5 with .026 that's good.

I got done with my work early today so I mixed up some some hard block and filled one side.
Put a torque plate on it.
Anyone interested in doing this 1 of the tall pour bags is more than needed to fill to the bottom of the lower coolant hole.
Also put my heads back together with new springs, cut .020 off the tips for a little more available lash & installed the springs at 1.990 & cc'd the intake ports. I was a little surprised to find out I only added 7 CC's so 247 . Mostly made the csa bigger and blended the roof back to the bowl.
Chambers are now 64.50cc's.
Anyways, that's it for today.
Best news I got yesterday, is my wife got a job..so a little relief.

So I learned something from the hard block pour.
Pay attention, go slow, it doesn't set up fast.
I went fast and wasn't paying attention so my passenger side passages aren't playing together.
I overfilled It and the bolt bosses blocked the flow. So I'm going to try and make some flow with a masonry drill bit.
The side I did today obviously went better since I knew what to expect.

After further investigation, I'm going to be feeding coolant externally through the block.
@Newbomb Turk came by the shop to help me develop a good plan..I defer to him since he's been there done that lol.
Again, if you plan on doing this...take your time and don't overfill.
I think I aged months just in stress today

While I don’t have hard block in mine, this idea intrigues me!

Its a good plan for ring seal, strengthen the sumbish. I drilled and staked the main caps also.
It should be a fairly durable block...as long as I can successfully fix that overfilled side.

Ah, my bad man. Was intrigued by Timmy's external cooling thingy, my pile doesn't make enough poop to need the block filled.

Well it was a 2 man plan, I had a plan to drill the side of the back in 3 spots so I could get a masonry bit between the cylinders so the water would circulation and plug it. Tim told me I was completely screwed because water inlet was mostly plugged so he said put some 1/4 by -8 an 90° fittings in, tie them together with hose and an run the inlet off the side behind the water pump housing... well it sounded good to me and that's what's going to happen. I drilled 4, 7/16 holes where I wanted them and now it's dark.

Right on, I had just never thought or external block cooling lines and curious to see how it plays out. Looking forward to see the results and pics!

Well I was able to get a couple hours in today on making this tunnel ram look nice.
I was bored and watching fabo for interesting stuff. I have some people to thank right now.
I came across a thread from @318willrun that he's doing something every day 30 days in a row. On that thread I got a kind reminder from @TT5.9mag about people wanna see this car actually work one day lol.
Always have to be thankful for @Newbomb Turk
We went to see some friends drag racing today so I was inspired. Almost done with this.
