What are people using for light weight batteries in your race cars? I'd like to get rid of my duel battery set up and drop down to 1 smaller 12 volt. Thanks for any info.

I went with a Braille i35. Lithium ion phosphorous battery. 9.75 pounds. But....don't forget their special charger thats required. They have a lower aH rating but apparently that is different than a lead acid battery. Are you running an alternator?
At the track last weekend so.eone mentioned they have 2 Walmart power sports agms that give them 1400 amps at start. And they are smaller and lighter. Again, requires the.proper charging system.

So are you saying a regular alternator won't work for those? School me cause I was thinking about looking at one.

Just pulled this from their website.
  • Braille i35X - the ultra-lightweight Group 35 size lithium upgrade
  • Max weight Savings!! (Only 10 pounds vs 45-60 in a lead battery)
  • 100% compatible with ALL standard charging systems
  • Can be used in total loss (no alternator) applications
  • True 'Race Grade' lithium battery Made in USA (Sarasota, Florida)
  • Most reliable lithium battery on the market

The total loss part is how long the battery will last without being recharged. How much do you use without recharging? Running fans and waterpumps sucks juice. I run an alternator so I'm all set.

Run this one with alternator for a season now. Very happy!

I went with a 1 16 volt. Best decision I ever made. My engine has high compression at 16.24 with no issues with hot starts.

Are you running an alt? I assume that would require a 16 volt alt? I'm thinking this is the way to go do to having high compression and electric fans , fuel, water pump etc. and with the timing be locked.

I run a XS Battery weights 22 pounds, i run my water pump for 15 after a run, always has plenty of power for starting.

I run an XS16 Volt battery it weighs 12 pounds I do have a 16 V alternator as well. My battery is 3 years old and we have probably made 450 to 500 passes with it. No problems so far.

This one of mine....

Seven pounds. Lithium Titanate, much safer than Lithium Ion or really, any other Lithium type battery on the market.
This one of mine cost just shy of $500 so it isn't cheap. I needed a battery and have no kids so why the heck not?
It cranks over the 440/495 FASTER than any battery I've ever had. It runs at 13.6 volts, I have the adjustable voltage regulator set to 13.8.
Yes, regular high output alternator but the regulator is special:

Adjustable on the back side using a small standard screwdriver.

Seven pounds, man!
