Just wondering if this is a worthwhile upgrade while my side cover is off and the snow is flying?

IDK either.
I've been running steel forks and a Passon cover, for a few years now, cuz of the interlock mechanism, which seems to keep the trans in gear better, and because the forks seem easier to repair.
If you are retrofitting a steel fork, to the older covers, by cutting the interloc-pin off the end, IDK, to me that kindof defeats the best part of using a steel fork.
and
I mean they say the brass forks break the pivot pins, but in all my decades of banging gears with brass forks, I never broke one.
EDIT,
Upon reflection, I might broke one.

Its a ball and detent cover with brass forks. The steel 3 pad one Brewers offers is meant for this style of cover.

Yes.

BTDT.

I did a slick shift for my cousin and the box had a brass 3-4 shift fork.

I could not find a steel fork with a gun to my head. I stashed them and forgot where they were so I said screw it. We both were beating on the car at the track without issue so I sent it.

A few years later he died and a year after that I got the car.

The FIRST day I drove it after I brought it home I was taking my kid to a baseball camp.

Shifting from third to fourth getting on the freeway and snap. Broke that turd.
So I only had the bottom two gears to get the kid there and then back home.

I had to pull the transmission and fix it.

That sucked so I’d replace it now and sleep better.

Unlucky you, lol.
My tunnel is roomy enough that I can change the forks, in situ.
Yeah it's a lil tricky, but I have small hands, lol.
And besides that, my record for taking that box down, on a 4-post lift, is 17 minutes, which includes dropping the exhaust, and taking the GVod down. She's all-alloy so IIRC that's 85 pounds, and the GVod is another 23 pounds.

Wait!
How do I know about changing forks in situ?
Ohchit, upon reflection, I sorta do remember replacing a brass fork, in the early 70s. Man I all but forgot that.

Upon closer inspection the 1/2 fork isn't great so I’ll replace it. This is the bad side.
