fresh 727 will not kick down .wont kickdown at any speed.speed does not matter.bouchillon cable adjusted so lever on trans is full rearward at full throttle. carb is fully open. trans lever is all the way rearward and no kickdown.WTF else would cause this??tried another v.b. same thing.both v.b. have part throttle kickdown.ive messed with the kickdown cable adjustment for a few months and i give up. i thought bouchillon had the lever at the trans matched. im about to throw in the towel and get a mvb. what else could be causing this??

Happened to me. In my case the pivot linkage on the tranny was flipped and therefore hooked up wrong. There was no pressure on the kick down mechanism so it would not kick down.

IF the transmission was built prior to 1971, it will not be equipped with the part throttle kickdown valve and it will not down shift.

I was just going to ask what year the transmission was.

so many things can cause this. The list goes on. Check the governor, it could be sticking. Check pressure at the governor as well.
is it true you can unstick it by going 10 mph and jamming the shifter in park? or is that and old wifes tale?

i does not matter what year it has NO KICKDOWN AT ALL
It most certainly does matter. Like Rusty said, transmissions built before 71 do not have the part throttle kickdown valve in the valve body and do not kickdown.

Don't unless you want to take the parking pawl out and possibly brake the case.

i dont know how to check the pressure at he governor. trans was built this summer by 727 specialist, and has a a&a valve body that has ptkd

Check with your builder to see if he modified the valve body for part throttle kick down. (or if the transmission was new enough and didn't need it)

ok so i quess i was not clear. the valve body has part throttle kickdown, the kickdown lever is all the way back at full throttle.there is no kickdown.is this governor related??

i will look online and see how to check for a stuck governor.i know the tail housing has to come off,but thats about all i know.

Ok. Then...

just tying to get this thing to kick down, does not have to be part throttle, although it should, full throttle would be nice

Here's a reference as to potential causes. It's challenging once the work is aftermarket and includes a variety of parts. Ideally, your builder will need to help.

Good luck

thanks for info.i dont want to bother my builder as he just had a heart attack

The A&A should have part throttle kickdown. I wouldn’t jam it in park. That’s no bueno. There’s a port at the tail housing where you can use a mechanical pressure gauge to see what pressure the governor is getting.

there may a port, but i dont remember seeing it.i will look

i sold a good cope built 727 with a rmvb and all the good parts inside.because im leaving this duster to my daughter, and wanted it to be an automatic so she would not have issues having to manually shift. new trans has all these shifting issues, makes me wish i would have just kept the crt trans.i thought if i got a automatic trans for her all would be fine.not so much.having second thoughts of getting rid of my cope trans.

You said you’ve been chasing this for several months, but your builder just had a heart attack. I would have taken it back to the builder after the kickdown linkage didn’t have any effect after adjustment. Either way, the car needs to go back to the builder so he/she can look at it as soon as they are able. If you paid somebody to put it together, they should be responsible to make it work properly. Just my two cents worth.
