Hey Guys.

I picked up a complete 1972 318 with edlebrock intake and matching 1972 transmission all still together. The engine has a remanufactured tag on it. I was wondering if it is worth much or would this be a place to find a good home for it? Apologies if this isn’t allowed. I’m in Savannah, GA.

Thanks

If it's not installed in anything, or on a run stand or where you can actually bust it off and hear it run, consider it a core and price it as such. You can add a little for the intake and carburetor...if it has one.

So this is not some gold mine? If it runs and it has the 904 transmission what is a fair price? I just don’t want to junk it or give it away if this is a highly sour after or rare setup that a restorer would be searching for.

Jasper Reman Engine tag on the engine?

Believe Jasper is in Georgia?

That said, good chance it has been bored and different pistons to clean up the cylinder walls. Might even have a new stock or RV cam in it being it now has a 4 bbl on it too.

More research to see what you got. Bore scope could maybe show you the piston tops to read the over bore stampings.

Thanks George Jets. I will try the bore scope tomorrow

Jasper usually has the Reman Tag with the serial number of the rebuild.

You could call them with that number to see if they have the rebuild specs on that engine.

500~1K entirely dependent on condition, history (if you have any) and specifics: which eddy intake, carb, oil pan, electronic ignition distributor, pulley set, motor mounts, etc etc etc.

if i can't hear it run, then it's gonna be much closer to 5

Of course it's not. It's a 318. It has worth, but no gold mine. That's funny. It's not a running engine though, unless you can turn a key, push a button, put some wires together and start it up. That's just how it is. Yeah, if you can get it to run, I think the 500-800 is good territory.

The op needs to do his homework and see if it runs before we can help him with an asking price. Unknown condition makes it worth $100. I have gotten engines for nothing. 904's too. But, if I needed a powerplant, I would gladly pay a few hundred dollars for a running engine in good condition. I replaced the 383 in my Road Runner decades ago with one from a Chrysler Newport from a local salvage yard. They guaranteed it to be good and that it came out of a wrecked and not a junked worn out car.

See if it will run or at least hook it up to a battery and do a compression test. That will help you (and us) decide on it's condition.

Thanks for the advice toolmanmike. I have spent hours trying to figure this out and you guys have been a ton of help. These are all things that I will work on to get more information. I will see if it will fire tomorrow or at least check compression and bore scope to see what’s in there. Thanks

As is, I would only pay $300-500 Canadian.

Make sure you get a manual oil pressure gauge on it too so prospective buyers can see it has good oil pressure. The more info you have available, the better your asking price.

Your other thread shows some pix.....certainly looks like its been out in the weather for an extended period of time AFTER it was pulled from a car. Strong possibility its all junk. As RRR said, RUNNING means a lot, not running leaves too, too much to interpretation, which can only hurt value..... IMO, your best bet at this point is to pull heads and pans so people can see what damage (if any) has been done.

My bad. I thought the pictures were posted here. I understand why that seemed like charades with no pictures at all. It was Inside in a shop when I got it but it could have been outside before. I
Will open some stuff up tomorrow and get some more information. Here are some pictures if you want to look. Thanks

Yeah that corrosion on the distributor and alternator, and fan and belt and pullies, looks like it's been outside.

Maybe was under a tarp, but still outside and drawing in moisture. Big red flag.

Pretty much looks like the exit of the exhaust manifolds were not plugged for those humid situations.

So.....
That means you got 2 rusted cylinder walls on the 2 cylinders where the valves were open.

I would not bother trying to start it, probably do more harm than good.

Savannah Georgia is right on the Atlantic Ocean, salt in the air > corrodes everything.

No place to keep a nice chromed out motorcycle, would be rust pitted chrome in one season.

Not looking good for the 53 year old 318.
