As you all know, I am helping my friend Mark work on his 56 Studebaker Powerhawk. The air cleaner has a big decal on it plus some words that were stenciled on in paint. He found the decal, but we need to get the words on the picture below stenciled on there. I have looked everywhere for somebody who will make me a stencil that I can stick onto the air cleaner, spray some flat white paint, and then peel off the stencil and leave just the words as you see in the picture. I have had no luck. Does anybody know of a source? The whole thing is about 3 inches wide by about 2 inches high.

Pretty sure that was done with a stamp originally. The exact process name is not coming to mind but used a pad with an ink loaded stencil. If the finish is important to you, take that into account. If you paint them with a stencil, it will look significantly different than what is in the picture. The letters will be filled out and crisp. You might be able to go back over and blot or age the white letters but that is beyond my pay grade. Good luck.

You might contact lettering.com Explain that you want what is normally the drop/cutaway/waste.
I'll assume the fade away is caused by a slight radius in the surface. Strongest transfer at the top of the hill. A good airbrush job could get close to that OEM appearance.

A good powder coating shup can do that .
Thanks a lot for that idea. I've been powder coating for about 20 years. I think if I did it in powder, it would look to nice. I don't think I could get that 'rubber stamp' look.

I hadn't thought of that. Thank you VERY much for your input.
Get a rubber stamp made for about 20 bucks. What I did for the heat box stamp..

One of many. Easily Design Custom Rubber Stamps with StampMaker
Thank you VERY much for that idea. I will look into that tomorrow.

True …possibly if you fogged it from a distance …but the rubber stamp idea is better. Didn’t realize you could have them made so cheap .
