I...may not be selling my 73 Duster after all. I might be fixing it...so I want to avoid the screw-ups that result in thrown tools. Current setup is a Magnum 360 with an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, AVS carb, bogus 6bbl air cleaner, and stock hood with a Demon scoop. I want to replace this with a flat hood...but that Air Gap intake is tall. The question is: will the Air Gap intake clear a stock Duster hood? It's not clear with the current setup, but it looks like it would be VERY close.

Anyone running an air gap with stock hood?

I have an air gap on a 440 with an AVS2 carb. I used a Cobra-Tek drop base air filter part number HZ-7195B-PBK. Bought from Ebag. Fits great and clears the choke housing and throttle linkages. Was the base only.

TY. Any idea how much drop that is?

Mancini has the drop base that you need, but which one you use will depend on the rest of the air cleaner- they have bases for the stock unsilenced lids, as well as aftermarket lids. They're usually an inch drop or so.
And you can't run a carb spacer of any kind, either.

MRE - "High Lip" Air Cleaner Baseplate

TY. I'd love the MP air cleaner, but WOW they're pricey now.

Yeah, I figured that about no spacer.

My plan B was ditching the Air Gap and AVS for a regular dual plane and a TQ. But if I can run what I have, that's money I do not need to spend.

360 in my 67 Barracuda, 340 in my 65 Barracuda. Both have Air Gap intakes, 3310 Holleys and Mopar Performance chrome versions of the factory unsilenced air cleaner. Both clear the hood.

Typical drop base 14 inch air cleaners drop down a little more than the Mopar Perfomance air cleaner, so they clear even better.

I have a blueprint magnum 360 that came with the airgap intake, holley carb and blueprint air cleaner. I have a 1/2" spacer under the carb. Just had to cut the air cleaner stud down. Tight but fits flat hood on my 1970 Duster.

I use a wad of aluminum foil on top of close clearance items to verify adequate clearance. I didn't have to run a drop base air cleaner on my '68 Barracuda hood, but it is very close to rubbing.

My 340 with the Edlebrock Air Gap Intake with a 750 eddy Carb and yes unfortunately my hood had to be cut and dual snorkles added.

OK, thought something like that? Any idea how much drop I need?

Man, I wish I could find an M1 intake.
Why? The air gap is at least 15 better than any M1 and hangs on much longer than the dual plane M1. It is very hard to beat the rpm air gap on just about any small block that doesn’t spin 7000 or more.

I have an air gap on the 340 in my Duster, I run it with a drop base and the MP air cleaner lid but I've also used as much as a 1" spacer under the Holley 750 DP using a 2" tall air filter.

I run an air gap on my small block '71 Duster with a 1" spacer, average 2" air filter/cleaner & it clears the stock hood.

Because with an M1, I could run a ThermoQuad.

The basic edelbrock drop base air cleaner will work with the flat stock hood no problem. Have done this exact thing in my Duster (still use the air cleaner with the super victor EFI) and a 71 Demon with a 318 magnum and an Air Gap
