Brand X Modern Musclecars

-
I still don't understand why Ford and Mopar guys can kind of get along but most chevy guys are all pissy about chevy is all there is. I know some guys are 100% brand loyal and that's fine but when your brand completely abandons you there is not much choice. I don't know about the Challenger yet if it is a long enough run it will get some good aftermarket support , but a short run will mean no go fast goodies. Right now it's the same as my 300C with two less doors.

They've still abandoned us IMHO. The Challenger is a cool car but Chrysler doesn't offer the car with a manual transmission until you step up to the $35K R/T model and then they charge an extra $2K for the privilege of rowing our own gears! I don't know about the rest of you but I can't (won't!) make payments on a $35K car that I'm only going to drive once and awhile.

i agree. chrysler has been dead to me for a long long time. last thing cool from them was the lil red. screw the viper i would byuy a vette instead and the V-6 prowler, should have put a 360 magnum in that baby.

I agree , with my track record I know that I will have a new Challenger in my garage sooner or later I just don't know if I will sell the Cobra to speed up that process.

Well for those narrow minded people who think Mopar are the ONLY carmakers on the planet (reminds me of my late father who treated his Packards like a Holy Relic) you might have missed me saying I've owned 42...that's FORTY TWO Mopars, and 4 mustangs.

I also spent about half an hour on the phone with Sean? Saleen this week talking about what? Their Challengers. Yep. I've mentioned them several times (at least on FABO) and no one seems to pay any attenetion. Is it because they were building Fords for so long? Yeah, there's a good reason not to pay attention. Yeah they're gonna cost more than an SRT. But they're also gonna offer a 500hp and a 700hp 5.7. They're also doing development on the 6.1's according to that call I made.

Don't know if I'll ditch the Mustang or not. But if I can swing it, I'll have one of their Challengers.

Oh yeah. And for those who haven't driven one of the '05 up Mouses, you really should. It's a pretty nice car. I hope the Challenger rides and handles as well. I used to race Porsches, so I know what handling is

The only brand X I've ever owned was a '65 Buick Skylark. 301 Nailhead, ran like a new one and the whole car was just sweet. Bought it from VOA, drove it home (1 block), parked it in front of the house and was going down the next morning to get it tagged and insured. At 3:36 AM the power pole across the street decided to lay down for a nap and both transformers it was supporting went through the roof of my Skylark. By 3:00 PM it was on a stretcher going to the boneyard. Owned it less than 24 hours. Hope that doesn't count against me. Haven't even looked at a GM product since.

I got my mopar love from my dad, he has owned nothing but mopars. 64 Dodge, 68 A108, 84 Chrysler 400, 86 Dodge mini van and a 96 Chrysler LXi.

My grand parents at least the ones i knew were Buick people, which I dont put BOP in the same catagory as Chevy's, i would jump at a GTO or 442.

I would buy almost any Mopar, and a lot of Fords, but I can only think of 5 Chevys I would ever want to own.

Mopar or almost no car for me.

My first car was a 68 Barracuda Formula S 340 4spd, and I still regret the day I sold it. I've also owned a 66 Dart /6, 68 Dart GTS, 67 GTO convertible, 63 Impala SS convertible, and a 70Chevelle LS7 454 to mention a few. Back then you could buy a great car for under a $1000. Besides my Sport and DD's, I also own a 1990 Chev SS 454 truck, which is a blast to drive..."straight ahead".
I don't wear blinders, and like any "good" car or truck, but I am partial to Mopars. Tim

I bought my '88 5.0L Conv new in the fall of 1987 with 5 miles on the clock. Its a 5 speed and it now has around 46,000 miles on it and all original. Wish there was a new mopar, 2 door, rear wheel drive, manual trans car back then. The 5.0L mustang was the car to have and it still puts a smile on my face even after all these years. It makes some nice sounds and can easily generate huge clouds of tire smoke.

Mopar seems to be unwilling or unable to build something to compete with the Mustang.

Great looking cars guys I still find it funny that all of us old mopar guys went to Ford and not GM for modern muscle. Thanks to everyone for honest answers and not getting upset about this topic. Like I said before if you asked this question on a mustang board look out. I am really impressed with the people on here.

Well besides a Vette, what could you buy from GM? A (first ever) G8? After they killed the Camaro and Firebird there was nothing left to buy. Kinda left you getting a Mustang if you were gonna get anything.

So now there is a new Challenger. Two doors. Manual trans. V8 under the hood. And people are bitching. (insert whining voice here) "It's to big, to heavy, to expensive, not enough like the original, :blah5: "

Don't buy one. You don't deserve it

well if your getting a older mustang like a 98... they have the 97 camaro which was a really good year

My first car was a 1970 Chevelle with a 350. Bought it in high school grad 87. Gave it to my parents when I went into the Navy. They drove it for several years and the engine went in dads full size blazer. The car sold for parts. I still have the build sheet though and its license plate....Only car I would call a muscle car I owned, other than the Duster now.

I agree, most Mopar guys get along with Ford guys well. Chevy guys... (camaros owners) always think they are SOOOOO much better.

But I like all muscle cars...love the first gen. firebirds. 50's and 60's Trucks too!

neat thread.

This sounds like divine intervention. I,d be scared to drive another brand after that.

I had an 89 LX 5.0 back when Chrysler was only building turbo K-cars for the Mopar-faithful. Sure I felt dirty but that car was a lot of fun to drive and made all of the right noises.

The Shelby Daytonas were nice cars but musclecars they were not.

Ths Intercooled Turbo Shelby Daytonas would do 14.8 second quarter mile times right out of the box. That's muscle,
regardless of which set of wheels are doing the work. :burnout:

I stayed true Mopar or no car through most of my life. I went with the little turbo cars. I had a 86 Turbo Van with a 5 speed, my first FWD in the 13's was a Black 87 Daytona, and my 89 Shadow made 242 hp at the wheels with a modified super 60 kit. I have since added some intake mods and added a larger intercooler with more boost, but haven't had it to the dyno again.

However, in my early years I had a Camero, a Mustang and a litle Fairlane.

Not sure where they have come from, but there are already some "R/T" Challengers on the ground. And they have to be '09's, cause all the '08's are SRT-8 autos

The only Daytonas running high 14's box-stock were the IROC R/T versions with the 224hp DOHC engine in them. Regular Turbo I and Turbo II cars were lucky to break out of the 16's stock. I remember the VNT cars were better, a friend had a black one, but those are as rare as hen's teeth... haven't seen another in years.

It's apples to oranges though. I've had a couple of Turbo cars (87 Shelby Charger, 86 Lazer XT) and they were nice cars. Quick, not fast. Sure I've seen modified cars running 12's, 11's, even 10's but honestly, the drive-wheel location does make a huge difference in what makes a true musclecar as do the noises coming from the tail pipes. The 5.0L Mustang was less money than the Turbo Dodge cars when new and was significantly quicker... IMHO it was the Duster 340 of the 1980's.

Imagine though if the Daytona had been built RWD with even a mild 318 under the hood... Mustang? What's a Mustang? ;)

First car i n 1973 was a 68 Chevelle 396 SS. By 1974 I had my first Dart Swinger 340. Since than I have almost always had a Dart in the barn somewhere but have also had 69 SS 396 Chevelle, 69 Z28, 68 & 69 Vette, then jumped to a 87 Buick GN. Again I've always had a Dart to go along with the others. However I sure wish I would have had the money a few of those old Chebbies would bring today! I'de have me a origional SS Dart sitting around! Oh well. Hay, I liked the old 66 Fairlane GT's as well. I'll always be Mopar @ heart!
