Hey All:

Seems like there's always a lot of interest in threads about 318s.

How many in here take their 318 to the dragstrip, or are building a 318 to race?

used to run a 72 swinger 1/8 mile. 509 cam 360 heads and trw flattops 727 into 3.91 8.75 ,ran a best of 8.20 with all motor

Makes 470 hp at the flywheel, but only puts 376 to the ground??? 94 hp drivetrain loss? That is alot!

High stall converter likes to mess with the dyno readings.

That is super impressive. Dude must be mega interested in making a 318 go fast! LOL

I have only made some testing at the 1/8 and it went 8.07 with carb trouble. It has a lot left in it! aiming for 10.9 at 1/4 next year.

If anyone wants this engine I'll sell it less carb and dist.

I have another combo I'm going to try, actually 3 more combinations.

I have a 67 barracuda fastback thta I take to the track a few times a year. Its a 318 .030 over, hughes engines heads, 1.94/1.60 valves, performer rpm airgap, demon 750 annular mechanical, with 1' open spacer, headers, engle cam [email protected], roller rockers, 904 trany, w manual valve body, 4.10 gears, auburn posi, caltracs, holley electric fuel pump, many fiberglass components..Runs 13.07 @ 102.7 time slips show 12.98 is in it under right conditions.......60 ft. 1.75 best....shift at 6,000 through traps at 5900..
want to change to a 4.30 in the future.....

I think Don from FBO runs a 65 barracuda 318 he`s in the 10s
hes on this site somewhere, his car is red white an blue

His is a stroker engine not really a 318, but is a base block of a 318. So I wouldn't call this a 318.

Unless your using 318 heads none of these combinations are 318 anymore...

Go back and look at the 3rd post and this engine uses 318 heads and is all 318. I know as it belongs to me.

I think he views it like;

It's a 318 in whole if the heads are used. Pure 318.

it's a 318 w/340/360 heads, a change and a move away from a all stock engine needing help in the breathing department. If the 318 heads aren't up to it, the engine may still have the OE C.I.D. but the heads, even though stock issues, are not stock to the engine as made. Not a pure 318.

Then theres stroking. Once stroked, you can't really call it a 318 anymore. Call it a stroked 318. 318 to ***.

good analysis rumble and BJR any stroked is not the same engine, i learn something new on here every day

Thanks, same thing with it overbored, but I'd still call it a 318 @ .030 though it isn't. Once a crank throw is changed, it's no longer a 318. The overbore is just an overbore for clean up purposes when building. The actual increase in displacement is small. Unlike a 3.31 stroke to a 3.58 or 3.79 or 4.00 increase.

IMO A stroker is whatever cubes it turns out to be, but a 318 with different heads is still a 318 (even if its bored .030).

Hi,
here's my combo:

904 manual valve body
