Tincup's 63 Dart w/5.7 Hemi

Well, do you have the new pan?

Well the pan came in yesterday, all they did was drill all the bolt holes larger to accomidate their poor alingnment the first time. If there was another solution, I would send this thing back in a heartbeat!

Tincup - what did you wind up doing with the front floor? Saw pics of it missing - but nothing else.

Gonna start kicking off a build on a '64 Cuda - your build certainly has provided a wealth of info so far. Keep it up!

Welcome to the club PTCuda. I have the new pans all trimed ready to go in, but until I get the trans in place, I'm going to leave them out. It will be a whole lot easier to work without the floor. I love the picture in your sig, is that your build? If so post the pic, I'd love to see it. If I can be of any help at all, just ask.

Thanks. It's a rendering I bought when I first decided to do the build on the '64. Do a Google Image search for "64 Cuda" and you'll see it there. It's by Eric Brockmeyer Design, and inspired me to do the build and replicate the rendering. Will most likely need air to get that low, but that's my goal.

I've been looking at both the alter-k-tion and magnum force front ends, and leaning towards the magnum, since there are many options, including lower spindles, powdercoating, etc.

My father-in-law is going to be building the powerplant. Right now he's thinking of a stroked 440. I'm wondering if that's too much for this car. What are your thoughts?

You'll definitely need air to get that low... EFI 5.7 HEMI will do the trick--any trans will do. Gen III HEMI weighs next to nothing, and will help in any manner of things related to performance. Keep us posted. Gen III's are less than you think, and put out more than any driveable 440. 87 Octane rules.

That was awful nice of them to drill out the holes for ya, probably saved you 5 minutes---cheap bastards. I was really glad that you got your pan back, but this is not right, especially the amount of coin those things cost. Well I think I'm gonna go with a single stage urethane--ordered a much better gun so more practice is in order. Car show is Oct. 10 and I'm entering it in the under construction class, I placed 3rd last year because it didn't run, now it runs so we'll see what happens.

Good luck......sometimes an unfinished mopar is nicer than all the finished mustangs and camaro's in the world.

Tincup - what's a ballpark on the 5.7 from the factory?

In my opinion, if you plan on driving it, a Gen III is the only way to go. I purchased my "New" 2005 5.7 LX (car motor) for 3K in the crate. Of course there are a few additional items you need like alternator, different oil pan, exhaust, but you will need that no matter what you build. The motor will still utilize the MDS along with an overdrive automatic, this car will have 350hp and should get 25mpg on the highway all day long, Let's see you do that with a 440.

I cant see me doing that cause I can't see my speedometer and fuel gauge to tell what kind of mpg I get from my stroked 440 BB...........I'm always blinded by white, thick, foul smelling smoke that seems to be coming from the rear of my car near the point where the tires used to be making contact with the road......It won't stop even when I shift up into 3rd......These #$*$&@!* big blocks are nothing but trouble I tell ya.

If I went 3G I wouldn't have to deal with 700HP and almost = torque. It's NOT WORTH IT.....I only get 12 MPG on top of that. I feel this way every time I get in and it fires it up on the first try. It's a crappy feeling no doubt.

Your right to stick with new technology and sacrifice brute HP and torque for economy and better traction.:snakeman:

It's the green thing to do.:toothy10:

I'm not to sure that a comparison could be made between the "old, new" stuff. Way too much difference, but lets just look at anyway.

5.7,6.1,6.4 hemi. efi or carb, idle baby smooth, mpg, lighter on nose, can be made with big hp or torque. just a few off the top of my pointed head

383,400,413,426 wedge,426 hemi,440. efi or carb, toddler smoth idle, heavy on the nose, can be made with big hp or torque, just a few off the top of my pointed head.

So I say, build what you like, enjoy it, and drive the piss out of it!!!!

Oh, damn near forgot this tid bit for both-----whatever engine you have, you have a hybrid cause it burns both gas and rubber. (late nite humor)

Good one....burn dead dinosaurs and molded goo from the tar pits....

They are all good engines no doubt.....and we are lucky to have the common sense to be aligned to the pentastar.

I had the same problem with the charles pan. I used the Mopar performance pan on my demon.

You are smart to use a 63, since until now you could not put a V8 in them because of the wiper motor. Good Job!!!

Sounds to me like someone is compensating for other "Short" comings....

I think the pan is made by Milidon for Mopar. They look the same . It was cheaper to by the mopat one with an employee discount then the mildon thru summit.

It definately looks different than the Milodon pan I had. I found an aluminum one that looks like yours, but not steel, I would rather have a steel one.. Do you have a part # by any chance...?

Its P5153643 . It also cam with the dip stick and oil pickup tube. Here is a pic of k fame . it was midified to use a tock 45 deg oil filter adaptor.

Seriously did you have to say that?

FYI....and so you don't get penvy...my favorite Mopar to date is my SRT4 caliber......150mph and 275 hp.

I'd love to run against your dart with it......I'm sure that would shut your comments about short comings down in 1/8th of a mile. and for sure after a mile when I loose site of you in my rear view mirror

That or one night with your wife/girl friend if you have one would do it.

Hurts don't it?

I was just having fun....hope you are to.

JK Mop
