I am ordering a new fuel tank for my project, the orignal one is dented and has a fiberglass or something patch that isn't holding up. Want to replace it with new and move on to the next step. I am ordering the spectra tank from Rockauto.com but not sure which fuel sending unit to purchase. There are two listed, one has 5/16" Outlet and one has 3/8" Outlet; w/ Fuel Return..which one would be the correct one?

Hey POPS, I just replaced the tank and sending unit in my 66. Not to change your mind about where to get your stuff from but I bought my tank off of eBay from a company called Maryland Quality Products, the price was $159.00 shipped to my front door. They have a couple of different listings on eBay for different prices so you have to look for the tank that says $159.00 and free shipping don't worry about the word sport that they have in there all the tanks are the same. As far as the sending unit goes mine is a 5/16" unit that is also on eBay, there is a company called AMautoparts that has the 5/16" unit for $45.05 with free shipping. I don't know about you but every dollar counts. The tank and the sending unit both are great, they went right in no problems. P.S. don't forget to put the small ground strap back on the fuel line when you are done. Good luck.

It'll depend on the what you have for engine. If you're just running a street car with a mild engine, the stock 5/16 line is just fine. If you have a megahorsepower monster under the hood, you might need to go bigger.....but you'll have to go bigger all the way to the carb or it won't do much good.

5/16 would be stock size. I would get the 3/8" w/ return since that will allow easier future upgrade to EFI. Just put a stub hose on the return, blocked off until you need it. Use only the more expensive "fuel injection" type hose. The regular "carb" hose will soon fail.

Good advice if upgrading to fuel injection but there's still the problem of a size mismatch (3/8" to 5/16") for your fuel line hose. I'd stick with the stock 5/16" if you're running all stock engine/fuel pump etc.

I'll have to definitely look into the other tanks, thanks for the heads up! I have been searching and try to steer clear of Ebay for the most part, sometimes you just don't know what you're getting, but since you had no problems, well that will help me in the decision process!

The motor is a 360, bored .40, custom crank, keith black racing pistons..Nothing major and not looking to go any bigger than that..That is plenty motor for me and this car.. Thanks for the advice..
