I just read that Dodge is going to produce a 1/2 ton diesel pick-up this fall ( 2013 ) as a 2014 model, It will have a V-6 eco diesel. I'm not sure why anyone would want a diesel in a 1/2 ton truck, except maybe the fuel milage will be better, but with the price of diesel fuel, whats the point? I think I'd rather stick with my Hemi ram.

Could be for the fuel milage, 27 MPG or 420 fT LB's of torque with an 8-speed auto.
Big buzz on Diesel 1/2 tons on pickup forums.
Alot of people waiting on 1/2 ton Diesels.
This is the same engine that is available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Chevy has been making a 1/2 diesel for years it's called a duramax! If it's not a cummins I don't want it.

X's 3 I sure wish I could afford one. I guess I have to deal with my cheap POS Ford

in europe 60% of vehicles are diesel, why? FUEL MILEAGE

the cummins is a 6 but too heavy for 1/2 ton

IF, they do it right and get one with higher mileage which is coming due to GOVERMENT REGS. it will sell.

higher fuel prices are what all of us are going to pay

dont remember the year but coming soon to a manufacture we love will be a 35 MPG AVERAGE. THE PUSH IS ON for higher fuel mileage no matter the cost to the consumer.

Our economy will not support what is coming

MY 2 CENTS, but it is completely worthless

Ford had a plan for a V6 diesel for the 1/2 ton and International Harvester tooled one up for them, big stink, Ford canceled the plan, Ford now builds their own diesel instead of the International Diesel it used for years

Ram had been working with Cummins on a V6 for the 1/2 ton also.
My guess is, they went with the VM V6 because it is used in the Europe Chysler/Jeep cars & trucks.
Also., it will keep the price of the Diesel package reasonable, since they are already using it.
The V6 Cummins would have been only available in the 1/2 ton.
One thing about it, RAM isn't sitting on it's butt.
They came out with the class leading 25MPG Ram 1500 for 2013.
Class leading Tow/Hauling numbers for the 2013 3500 HD.

They are wanting to be big players in the truck market.
Good job RAM!

the new hemi gets 25 MPG, and if the new 1/2 ton deisel is only going to get 27 MPG, I still could not justify it, with the price of diesel fuel....

I thought the 25 mpg figure was based on a 2 wheel drive V6 gas job? Either way I can see where people may want the efficiency and power of a diesel, but they may not need to tow anything or fill the bed with tons of weight. The 1500 diesel will allow the average homeowner who needs a decent sized truck with good power to have one and still get decent fuel economy.

Just my $0.02.

5.7 hemi is rated as high as 20 mpg. My dad averages 20 mpg with his 2012 hemi, but spend 30 seconds in the passing lane, or tow a trailer and that number will change quickly.
V6 gas truck is rated at 25.
I would think that the diesel v6 would outperform the gas v6 under any kind of load and maintain high mpg while the gas engine's mpg would suffer under load.
I think diesel 1/2 ton trucks will sell like hotcakes.

I live where Nissan builds their Titan trucks and there is a roomer that they have some trucks around here with the Cummings diesel v6. Also my company has several dodge sprinter vans with a v6 diesel that are very nice they are one Ton though but they are tough motors.

If some of you would ever get in a cummin's turned up you will never go back to gas. I can go around any thing pulling my trailer like I'm driving a a 440 4spd car. The power is unbelievable. I often wonder what prevents the hitch from breaking. The only maintenance is oil and filters. I pour diesel. trans fluid , home heating oil, kero or any thin oil in and it burns it. If it don't smoke black take it back. I have 4 and I like them all. I wish I would have kept the silver 93.

I don't see how they get 27 MPG.

I drove my girlfriend's uncle's 2009 2500 Megacab truck with the cummins in it on a road trip and I got 43 mpg. I didn't believe what the indicater was reading so I checked it, I actually got 44 MPG! And the the truck is bone stock.

I would love to have a 1/2 ton Diesel! Actually I would love to have any diesel truck!

My 2011 Ram 1500 Crew Cab is great. But, I think a diesel would make it awesome!

I just did the math gas here is $3.75 per gallon and diesel is 4.25 per gallon. If your diesel truck is getting 2 miles more per gallon than the gasser it actually costs you exactly the same. Plus, the resale on the diesels tend to be better. So the diesel costs more up front but everything else will kind of wash out in the end.

That was the sales pitch I used on my wife and as you can see I'm driving a gasser! lol!

That's funny Steve! Hey, my 2010 Dodge Crew Cab Hemi get's 11 MPG around town! :wack:

I've been driving diesel trucks since 98, all brands. I thought I didn't need the extra expense in maintenance once and went back to a gas job. The first time I pulled a trailer with a car on it I thought the engine was going to blow up. Needless to say, I am back in a diesel truck and I will always have one around for towing and hauling. The idea that a 1/2ton is coming out with it intrigues me. You will get the smoothed ride of the lighter truck and possibly a little more torque for working it. JMO

The fact that it's a eco diesel means you can run bio diesel in it which is cheap. I asked phillips gas co what it would cost to come get bio diesel in bulk and they said it would only be. 65 cents a gallon.

Is that a type error 43 and 44 mpg, or did you put the wrong kind of mushrooms on your pizza?

my 01 cummings will pull 25-30 mpg with an injector swap, bumps power to 500 horse and 800 flbs torque, just by doing an injector swap, best 600.00 spent period!!!!!!!!

back at you nothingbutdarts, yes do the stage 1 injector tune up from stock will boost your power and torque to what i have, nite and day difference you'll love it and its only about 600/700 bucks to do it, only problem you'll have is keeping your foot out of it, if you dont do that you'll still have crappy mileage just ask me i like the power band!!!!!!!

44mpg is not out of the realm of possibilty. My friend had a 2004-5 1/2T GMC Duramax shortbed (1 of 2 in the country, some sort of special order thing, but it has a wiring harness part number that was specific to a shortbed!)) and he claimed 36mpg on his way to Palm Springs (flat open road, 70mph all the way) empty. I believe it. Why cant someone put a small diesel on a car and get 60? BMW does it in Europe, it beat a Prius in overall MPG! Waiting for FIAT to get one in a 500, although the electric looks good too. It aint Mopar but .....
