On August 8th a self proclaimed "Chevy Guy" traded his 2001 Z-28 for a 1968 Barracuda and entered the world of the Pentastar for the first time. I'm a total Mopar newbie, so please bear with me as I learn.

The car's got a 451" "B" engine with a 125 shot, 727, 8 3/4" with 4.10's, mini-tubbed with ladder bars. I wish I had more info on the engine internals, but I don't. Sounds healthy though! I'm sure I'll end up tearing it apart before I drive it for the first time anyway. I wish I could drive it now, but I'm recovering from a shattered femur and as per the doctor's orders, can't drive. If it wasn't for my supportive wife I wouldn't even have the car. She actually agreed to load my Camaro onto a trailer, drag it all the way to Ohio to meet the guy I traded with and drag the Barracuda home! I am a lucky guy! Anyway, enough with the small talk and onto the important stuff....pics! These pics are what the old owner sent me as we were corresponding back and forth. As I do things and am able I'll post up new ones.

Suffolk County Represent! Huntington here, welcome aboard.

I'm sure Rumblefish will chime in here, he's close to you. Lotsa LI guys here, you'll be right at home.

Welcome aboard! Up the block from ya.

WOWWWWWWWW gotta love that! Looks like a nicely done hot rod for sure. Any idea what it runs?

Welcome to the Wonderful World of FABO. It's great to have another Chevy convert here with us! We always need more 68 Fastbacks. LOL

P.S. If you want to bring some of that beautiful dark blue under the hood or elsewhere to tie it all in, then I'm your girl. :-D It would be an honor to have a hand in that beast.

P.S.S. Your wife is a woman after my own heart! Give her a big high 5.

Wow! You guys.....and girls, don't waste any time with the warm welcomes! I was lurking around a little bit and saw all of the fellow LI'ers on here and just had to join! I look forward to becoming a regular contributing member.

As far as what it runs....I have nothing to back it up, but the guy I swapped with said it went 7.30's in the 1/8th spraying. Doesn't sound too good to me, my Camaro went 7.70's without spray, but this thing seems a bit out of tune to me, seems to be running pig rich. Of course, I can't leave anything alone, so I'm sure by the time I'm all healed and able to get this thing out, not too much will be the same as it is now.

Welcome aboard...GREAT looking car. And, of course, glad to hear you left the darkside (GM) and saw the light of MOPAR.

That's one hell of an upgrade! It's cool to see all the Island folk that rock the pentastar.

i used to own this car, i live in springfield mo, guy got it all wrong, about how fast it was, it ran 6.30s in the 1000 ft, not the 1/8 with 450 shot of nitrous, really wish i had not sold that car, i cry everyday it is gone,

Well I see this thread has been resurrected.....in a cool way too! Evidently 1968barracuda1962 used to own this car and stumbled across it here. Good stuff! This has been a long project since I got the car, work and newborns really get in the way of this stuff, but it looks like I'm on track to have her under her own power by the end of next week. I snapped a few pics the other day....so here they are.

Howdy nieghbor,...Some old threads never die....Belated congrats on the newborns....Is the Cuda gonna be for strip only???

Thanks for all of the love guys!

Rob,
Don't worry man! My plan was to show up in your driveway and rattle your front window out when it's mobile again!

Careful what you wish for smokindust! You might not get rid of me and a party sounds like a real good idea MiradaMegaCab! As far as the car being strip only....definately not. What fun would that be? Actually, I just realized that the list of small mods I've made since I got the car is in another thread, so here's a link if anyone's interested.

Hey - nice car - and old thread! How did the leg heal up? I shattered my right femur in July 2010 at the dragstrip - now have a titanium rod in it. Mine healed up great.

d55dave,

Thanks for the props on the car! I'm sorry to hear about your injury, but I'm glad it healed up well! I'm back to normal for the most part, but I destroyed 10cm of bone (3.9") and now have one leg one full inch shorter than the other which as you can imagine wreaks havoc with my back and everything else. I also crushed 2 discs in my back and lost most of the feeling from my knee down due to a good amount of nerve damage in the leg. I too had a titanium rod or "femoral nail" put in, but from the amount of bone loss and the stress it put on the hardware in addition to a bad infection in the "deep wound channel", it failed and did a bunch more damage when it did. I now have a stainless plate that runs from the outside of my knee to just below my hip joint held in place with 7 screws and believe it or not all the pieces of bone kinda went back where they belong and filled in that large gap nicely! I am no doubt damaged goods, but still here to talk about it and doing the stuff I like and want to do!

Here's what it looked like 16 months later!
