they sent me wrong pushrods with the oil hole

My rockers oil through the shaft and they sent me pushrods with oil holes through them. They are the correct length but will this oil hole affect anything??? Or should I send em back???
 
Indy la style x heads.. prw stainless 1.5 rockers...Hughes 5.58 lift cam and springs...its gonna be an oval track motor cranking it 6500 rpms or so. I need both ends of my pushrods to be ball end style. These pushrods are heavy duty .080 thick. Like I said the length they sent me are perfect its just that I don't need the oil hole through them. I'm more or less just wanting to know if the oil hole will cause problems or just run them.
 
I say run em. I can't remember if the pushrods on my LA have the oiling holes in the end and I don't really think the engine will care. I'm pretty sure that most aftermarket pushrods have oiling holes.

You might end up with a little extra oil at the rocker, but I can't see how that would hurt anything.
 
unless your lifter provide pushrod oiling...no oil is going up the push rod...

the prw rockers use ball n ball pushrods dont think the prw rockers will allow the oil into their cup anyway....

my only concern would be oiling through heads...and oiling through pushrods....with both....you need oiling to the bearing more then double oiling the rockers...
 
I am guessing the rocker has a provision to oil the pushrod cup through the adjuster ?
I know they are ball - ball ...... I mean the cup in the rocker / adjuster.
LA lifters do not oil through the push rods , so there has to be some way to lube the top of the push rods.
Having holes is not a deal breaker , but you need to be sure how the rocker shafts , arms etc. are going to get oil.
 
I have the Hughes cool face solid lifters.....and if I remember right the adjuster does have a hole in it to oil the top of the pushrod.
 
If the lifters are made with provisions for pushrod oiling I would not run them for the reasons 70aar points out. Call Hughes and ask.
 
Yea I looked on Hughes website and the lifters I have do have provisions for oiling through the pushrod.....dammit so now I'm screwed? Seems like everytime I order a go fast part...don't matter who from..some things always wrong!!! Just seems like its one setback after another !
 
What pushrods? When you order Smith Bros or Manton you tell them what they should be...lol
 
I ordered the pushrods through summit cause they were the exact length I needed at half the cost. They are comp cams pushrods. On their website it said they were non oil through.
 
hehehehe.... I was running a Comp roller with matching springs and titanium retainer several years ago. Kept bending pushrods...so I called Comp... they sent me more pushrods.....bent some more....called Comp..sent me more...called them again before installing to double check...THE GUY AT COMP SAYS ... WE DON'T MAKE ANYTHING FOR THAT SETUP....call Smith Bros !!!! You can imagine how much time I spent fr@':king with that motor !

Smth delivered.... no more problem
 
You can always see what happens by mocking it all up, turning the oil pump, and turnign the engine over by hand at the nsame time. It may not be an issue - if the holes are not uncovered by the rocker I'd think that would seal it. But I'd want to "see it wet" before I said it was fine.
Honestly - I use Comp for a lot of products - but for pushrods they haven't been my first choice for years. One call to Smith Bros and they are at my door in 3-4 days from 1/2 way accross the country. Fantastic guys to deal with & top quality product for slightly more $$.

My manton PR's and comp PR's all have the oil hole in them - made 627 hp with no oil through the rockers and there is no damage - just friggin put it together.
 
Dave - did your roller lifters have provision for pushrod oiling? I didnt think they did. That's really my only concern.
 
yes the comps have a hole both the 8043's and the originals ( i forget the number )

I dont have any good pix on the web of them but i used both comps and Manton PR and they both had oil holes.

When I swapped heads - i swapped pr's and the wear pattern is outside of the oil holes
 
Gotcha. That's the only problem I see - if the holes are exposed at full lift - hence my "wet test".
