Trends from the 60's

I was gonna say garage logo on doors. I generic one size fits all topper. Chrome exhaust coming out from under cab and following the bed rails, (that may be have been fifties).

See if you can dig up some pix of pit/tow trucks used at drag strips and Bonneville. Dragsters back then did not have starters so they usually were push started through the staging lanes. A lot of those vehicles were pickups. Same thing at Bonneville and the dry lakes. Of course a hot rodder could not leave anything too stock. Mag style wheels were not real common or cheap so usually the first step up was chrome reverse wheels w/ chrome baby moon hubcaps. Or plain painted wheels w/ chrome baby moons. Scallops or panel painting were popular on custom trucks because the lines were generally "squarish". If you really feel like steppin' out, hard to go wrong with flames.

I see a LOT of old trucks running around today with faded paint and some faded out hand painted business name on the door. A lot of those are actually "new" paint jobs. There is some skill involved to make the new look old. Just look at the intro to "Sanford and Son". I was out west last fall and took some pix of old abandoned trucks. Old patina with the faded door signs and holes, rust, etc.

dont forget the feathered roach clips hanging on the rearview with a dream catcher in the rear window....

If you are going for the "farm" look, either a push bumper or a caved in grill, and a cattle rack (a big cage in the box, used to keep livestock from jumping out of the box on the way to market).

Wheels and tires, will make the biggest difference appearance wise. Chrome reverse wheels, slot dish mags, baby moons,Cragars,etc......Tuck and roll upholstery. Check out Hot Rod Deluxe, magazines like that. Check out,all the car shows you can. You will know, what you like when you see it.

Was born in 66 so a bit before me but I thought that those button things sewn into the pleats of the fabric were popular? Sorry for not knowing the name of it...

I like this theme, it takes me back.....
Don't forget the 8 track stereo, the sun visor on the roof, chromies, sweep tach, cheap headers bent and hanging low hooked up to some cherry bombs or purple hornies with dumps before the rear end, cheap chrome valve covers that leak, bias ply tires only, 8'' 3 spoke steering wheel with the foam grip, shackles to ''jack it up'' in the rear, moon decals on the back window, paint the whole under chassis white, and you must have a jackall in the box with a loose spare tire....... to name a few things that i can remember about the things in the '60s that were ''cool''.
