I hope to see more of this 64 Valiant :glasses7: I bet ya that 225 moves that early A body nicely  X2, Keep that Slanty in there :thumleft:

Nice car for sure!!

He may also find that not only has the motor been changed, but the trans as well, hence the need for the column shift...I suspect a later motor and trans and the need for a linkage operated column!! Geof

??? what do ya mean?

my two signet 200 valaints both had push button.. thought that was a higher line valiant than the regular valiants like that one..

Hmmm...dash isnt drilled for pushbutton either, and the dash looks super fresh compared to the really faded wheel...and the cluster bezel looks to be painted silver!! A mystery for sure!! Geof

Beautiful car. You saved years of work by buying that. Either you paid top dollar or got a great deal. Your engine is a later block (at least 66+), both from the casting# (2806830) and the 5 casting plugs (64's had 3). Probably recently rebuilt since the casting plugs look new.

Looks nice and simple. If you want to easily change to a muscle car look, bigger alloy wheels make a big difference. Not hard to find a vintage set since many people change to the later big-bolt pattern to get disk brakes. Also, one company is now making new alloy wheels in your 5 x 4" pattern (unless prior owner changed).

Enjoy your ride. You will find much info here and on www.slantsix.org.

weird. i thought all 64's had push button automatics.... that a real late 64 or something?

Thats what I was thinking because I have seen 65 column shift with the cables and a cable shifted trans factory.

My guess is it was a 170 3-on-the-tree manual car. The column looks to be 67-69, and the car has a later firewall mount gas pedal. You have the benefit of a later rod shift transmission and non-trunnion driveshaft.

Nice clean car, almost too nice to put a 408 in.

Well whatever the parts are the're fun to drive! I plan on leaving this pretty much as you see it other than add a dual reservoir master cylinder on the brakes.
