i have a 71 340 and it currently has a holley street dominator for the intake manifold.... i have heard these are great for clearance for under the hood but also heard there are much better intakes is there anyone here that has and knowledge about these

Give it more then 7 minutes. I believe they are one of the better single plane street intakes but you would probably be better off with a dual plane.

The Street Dominator is THEE oldschool manifold of choice.
still feeding my bigblock through 1 after 35yrs.
some better, but not by much. jmo

The SD is a good intake for a modified engine. If there's nothing else done to it, the Performer 340/360 would be a better choice. The Air Gap is also better for a modified engine and I'd rather use the smaller Performer on a stock one.

The air gap would be best on a stock engine. There are test to prove it. Obviously the more modified the bigger numbers would come. All of above mentioned are good and I would use either or but if I was going to purchase one and planned on any mods then its air gap hands down

Better then airgap.... its a pretty proven intake.
No, better than the street dom, the street dom is kind of a "lost" intake.. Any duel plane even the stock 340 will work better idle to 5K it may have a slightly better breathing above that but not much, you wont feel it. The torker or new torker II is much better for a warm engine if were talking single plane, the strip dominator is a lot better for a very hot 340/360 or especially a stroker. I have a 400hp 360 and my ported strip dominator is too much for this little motor.

I believe the one i took off 359 years ago had 318 ports with a lot of core shift also!! That didn't help performance, h*ll the Strip dominator on my car needed a ton of gasket matching to fit a 340 head correctly!!

The street dominator that I had years ago was all done at 5500.

OK, fishmen, if I remember correctly Holley advertised this intakes maximum efficiency was from from idle to 5500, and that their design was for a mild STREET engine. Pulling past 6500 doesn't sound like a mild street engine.

If you are worried about hood clearance, with that cam I would go with the Performer RPM. If you have the room, go with the Air-Gap. Measure, measure, measure.

well i never checked the clearance but the dominator and holley combo under there now has an one in spacer....correct me if im wrong but wouldn't a eddy carb bolt right up to the air gap

and....lol.....for that matter what would be a good eddy carb i was looking at the 650 thunder avs or possibly the 750 performer

Since it hasn't been asked.......What are you looking for here? More performance or street drivability? Your cam is fairly mild, but 340's can use a decent amount of cfm and still drive nice and make really good power. What type trans, 4spd or auto/converter, rear gear and such, do you have?

Street Dominator. The name describes it. Just because there are better intakes 40 years later doesn't make it a bad intake. It's better than any stock intake Mopar ever offered. It's a good piece for a mild to moderate street engine.

well i wanna make it turn heads everywhere i go and make sure its got the power to blow peoples minds lol but street legal but just barely lol and it has a 727 in it i already know that the rearend needs to be replaced and im trying to figure out what it sounds amazing but has no power it feels to me like its either starving for fuel or getting to much so i figured i would go with what i know and use eddy....this is my first mopar muscle car i use to own a 77 firebird formula 400 with no other than the sb 400 and a muncie 4 speed....i put a ton of work into that car when i was 21 and it was quick....i went with a torker 2 with a eddy 750 it also had 6x heads hooker headers comp cam roller rockers forged pistions i think it had a 1000 cfm intake not sure of the numbers but i never had to worry about clearance cause i had a trans am shaker hood on it but this car was my pride and joy. one day while i was at work ( i worked building auto zones across the nation ) i get a phone call from my buddy that i had the car with that he was in jail and needed money to help get him out... since i was finishing the job that afternoon i told him that i would be there the next day to bail him out...i drove from Virginia all the way to Texas and straight to the jailhouse where i bailed him out. I drove him to his house and when i got there i asked him wheres my car he responded to me...where is my car ( 92 mustang fastback 5.0 gt) so at that point we called the police and made a report but alas i never seen the car again and i lost hope in building anything else.. well my wife and i decided last month to buy this 72 demon for 3000 that runs and only needs minor body repair but new interior but like i said the car just doesnt have the "balls" that im looking for my formula ran 11.23 in a quarter with slicks so thats what im looking for again with a mopar...ive always loved mopar just could never find or afford one now that i can i wanna do this right ya know

so i make pretty good money as i work on a drilling rig in texas now and have been doing so for a few years and i really have lost any knowledge about most of this stuff years ago so any advice about what would make this car all but stand up on 2 wheels would be much appreciated

and as far as the cam that is in it...and carb and intake.....it was done by the previous owner and was last worked on in 84 so needless to say the intake might be alright but i just dont think its what im looking for....i plan on changing the heads intake carb rearend possibly the cam if it is to mild and anything that i need to to get that same feeling

You need to decide what you want. Do you want it to sound good or run good? Lots of times they are not the same.
