remember today and tell any kids around to remember this day as the anniversary that many young soldiers had to grow up in a hurry and become hardened warriors in battle.

today is the 72 Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese which led to the United States getting involved in World War 2.

Hmmm...

Duly noted.

The holocaust was a very interesting time in modern history. It changed a lot more about how things are done, than most people realize.

At work, we had a Pearl Harbor Freight wall. Any tools that got obliterated from Harbor Freight, got screwed to the wood panel wall in their battle torn state. Jaw pullers, creepers, hand tools, a shattered impact gun...

Eventually, just like the real Pearl Harbor, it became a monument that my boss eventually learned from. It eventually led to the halt of him buying things from that place, as the wall of shame grew.

The awakening of the sleeping giant! CERTAINLY - not a day in US history to be forgotten.

The Navy and Marine Corps suffered a total of 2,896 casualties of which 2,117 were deaths (Navy 2,008, Marines 109) and 779 wounded (Navy 710, Marines 69). The Army (as of midnight, 10 December) lost 228 killed or died of wounds, 113 seriously wounded and 346 slightly wounded. In addition, at least 57 civilians were killed and nearly as many seriously injured.

Always remember. I used to know a guy that was in the second wave of D day. The way he described it was the way it looked in Saving Private Ryan. That was a tough war for a lot of young men and women. Don't ever wish for a repeat but to have this country with the same kind of united togetherness would be great.

Went to Pearl Harbor about 3 years ago some photos.. It's a must see if ever in Hawaii...Thank you to all that serve then and now. :prayer: The veteran in pic# 5 was one the very few left from the Arizona 3 years ago...

There were certainly many mistakes made that day and in the future by the US military, and poor communications between the state dept, govt, and military "back home."

You have to wonder, with Hitler's preachings, why he ever allied himself with such a "non superior" non caucasian race. Maybe he wanted to create " a side show" to keep others in the world busy while he overtook Europe.

Can you imagine if Stalin and Hitler would have remained allies?

"They" should have left us alone...

RIP to all Americans that lost their life in WWII.

I was fortunate to be able to visit Pearl Harbor in 1995 and then again in 1998. Unless you have been there, it is hard to describe visiting the Arizona Memorial at Pearl. One of these days I would love to be able to take my wife and son there, to share in these memories, and allow them to experience what I have.

I believe that Hitler was as surprised as we were about the attack, and knew nothing of the attack beforehand! There was absolutely no German involvement during the attack despite reports that 2 of the planes had German insignias on them!

I visited Pearl back in the late 60's with my father, who was a WWII vet. I have to tell you, even as a teenager my throat got pretty tight.
I think every one should visit there at least once in their life, same with Ground Zero, and the DC monuments.

I was speaking more generally. Hitler DID officially ally himself with the Japanese

Today I watched a documentary film by Frank Capra about events leading up to WWII and how USA got drawn in even before Pearl Harbor. I think name of film was "A Prelude to War", He made about 5 of these films for US military. The movie was great and explained the prelude better than any history book I ever read.

This date has always had a special meaning for me.
As mentioned several times in other threads, I had an uncle who was aboard the "West Virginia" - just behind and outboard of the "Arizona" - on Battleship Row at Pearl Harbor. He had to swim under the burning oil on the surface of the water in order to get away from his ship after it was torpedoed and bombed. We lost him several years ago and to his dying day he could never go in water over his knees without having flashbacks of the burning oil.
He and my aunt had a swimming pool in their backyard because she loved the pool. He could never get in it and swim.

A lot of lessons were learned by America that day. But one that has been forgotten is that our manufacturing might is what won WWII for us. Today we're too busy sending all of our manufacturing capability offshore just to save costs.
This practice may end up costing us more than we could imagine.

Never forget!

Visited the USS Arizona back in 1982 and Feb 2012, and took the tour on the USS Missouri.....Got some Big Gun there.....

The enemy of my enemy is my friend syndrome. I would imagine hitler was thinking he would ally himself with.the japanese and the italians thinking he would use them as useful tools , and if he were to take over the world, he most assuredly would have turned on both italy and japan.

You are seeing this play out in the world today. You have the militant islamist extremests, the liberal statists that enable the islamists to do their dirty work, the marxist socialists, versus the patriotic american. They are all looking to conquer us. They are all enemies, but will ally themselves against us, using each other as useful idiots.

Something to think about.
Matt.
