what is everyone running? tire size and wheel size? is a 4" rim too narrow for the street? I have 15x5" steel wheels on my dart now and I want to go to something else. the wheels im looking at, come in 4", 4 1/2", and 6"

I have some skinny radial tires on a pair of 15x4 Cragars, they ride smooth but not corner very good, think the size 185R, 15 tire flexes really bad around corners. I have a pair of vintage bias ply tires, size is 5.60-15 and those were mounted on some American racing torque thrust rims 15 x 4" wide, those road and drove a lot better than the radial tires ever did, plus had that vintage killer look. Yes the tires did pull a little bit on the highway but steered very nice, I really want to get another set of bias ply tires for my Valiant :glasses7:

I'm running 15x5 wheels on the front of my Dart. I kicked the idea around of going 3 1/2 but got too many people saying it wasn't practical on a 99% street driven car. I put some good 195/65/15 Michelin's on the front and the car drives and handles acceptably for a 40 year old car. With the ten's on the back I still got the big and little look that I was going for.

I was running 3 1/2 centerlines on the front of my duster. You just don't into a corner at 90 mph you'll be fine.

Brian that is that pic with the 195s? For some reason it looks a lot wider than the 185s I have now.

skinnies in the snow? 15 x 4 on 165r15's ....everyday for a year

Hey James Dart,

I'm running 165x80R 15's out front on the Duster. Not a daily driver, and certainly not a canyon carver, but they do just front going in a straight line. :burnout: But seriously, it handles fine for the basic drives to car shows and cruise nights with the family.

LOL believe it or not, they did very well in the snow. it wasn't the stopping or steering I trouble with , it was the gettn' goin' :banghead:

Lol!
You needed some bias ply winters like i had on my Demon in the early 80s!
Yes, 8'' wide!

Do the 165s lock up and skid easy with such a small footprint?

lol Pat , now whos the wild man :burnout:

they are just a bug tire. It was easier for me to steer with a manual box. I couldn't lock up any front tire I have with manual drum brakes lol
I didn't notice any difference between those and the 195s or 205s

ive run 4 inch for years and a spool out back, to me it rides and drives great but everyone is different but I like the combo just really bad if you ever have to push it around with the spool you better be real strong or have friends that owe you favours:-D

I run the old 165/15 Kelley Metric radials on 15 x 3.5 Centerlines. No problems here, drives fine. I'm not autocrossing the thing though.

Coker and Summit sell the Vredestein brand radials in 165/15 size for the VW crowd. They have a high speed rating and look vintage. They run about $110 each. I'd buy them overimport tires.
