..i have finally solved a "no charging" issue in my Dart and all values are as they should be now, but my ammeter no longer indicates.
..is there an electrical hazard with an ammeter that does not indicate?

If that gauge or the wiring to it was the problem and it still has live wires going to it, it's still a problem.

..,problem was actually the alternator.I first tried another alternator that was fine when last used (big mistake)
still not charging so i cleaned and checked values on every circuit and connection, and
readings still pointed to the alternator.
..i bought a new alternator, which solved the problem.
..many thanks to 67Dart273.i got a lot of help from his input on other posts.

If it is charging and the battery has a full charge you will see very little movement in an amp gauge.

All current to & from the battery goes thru the ammeter (exc. transient under-hood loads -starter & horn). If the ammeter isn't working, it may not be conducting current, and thus your battery won't charge or provide power (do headlamps work w/ ignition off?). This is for the factory wiring. Many people bypass the ammeter by running alternator output to BATT+ (on starter relay). Perhaps you did that.
