Are they worth the extra expense over a regular timing gear set? I'm using a MP purple solid cam in my 383 and I need a timing set with the 3 bolt cam gear. Today I was looking to see what is available and I'm just not sure if a billet set is worth the extra cost.

Looks like the absolute best would be a Rollmaster set.

Cloyes has never let me down. You can wear out your engine and put it on the next build.
Done this a few times.

I've had about every type of timing chain. I would buy a good roller set and add a chain tensioner. Every time I use a timing light, I am reminded as to why I use a tensioner. Everything is spot on with no jumping around. Just don't buy a stock chain set. Roller set only

Is there a tensioner available for the Big Block?

a gear drive is the best.

They do consume a couple more horsepower compared to a chain and I don't need the whine from them.

No tensioner I know of for a B/RB. But the LA works great. Rollmaster uses a good chain and hardened gears. I had a 3 bolt PJ gear in a 451, the sound was minimal.

the one Rob has for sale is a good deal....id buy his and not worry about a thing...

Billet are generally a little more accurate. They're not a lot more money either.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I forgot I had the thing until this jogged my memory. JGC403, if you want this, let me know. Otherwise I'll stick it in the for sale section and on Ebay because we could use the extra grocery money.

Thanks Bob, I thought it was too.....but evidently not. lol
