Man I hate this, I was plan on dropping in my rebuilt 318 4 bbl in my Duster. It would still run pretty good. And I have a 4 speed to put behind it.I have a new set of Doug's,motor mounts, and 2 1/4 exhaust kit for it.

But lately I have been thinking of dropping in my rebulit 383 into Duster. It is around 400-425 Hp and would be alot of fun.I would run a 727 just to make things easier. And I have a new set of headman elites I could use.I built the engine myself and have some money in it and I hate to see it just sit in the corner.
I can only afford one toy these days.So do I want the 318 4 speed that will still move pretty good and be decent on gas.Or do I want the hear the rumble of my 383 and the fun of a big block in a smaller car. Man I hate this but I am really leaning toward the 383 and selling off the Dougs and motor mounts.I think I will keep the 4 speed for now. Hmmmm......What to do...I know the slant 6 is going bye bye soon!

BB

Sorry I am I love BB A-Body's ......

that thing is screaming for a big block looking exactly like a factory install had they used big blocks in a duster. I would not alter the exterior at all with the exception of a snorkel scoop and hood pins

Your Duster would make an awesome BB sleeper....Go for it

I like small blocks in A-bodies for a ton of reasons. Now, you can get the 450 hp out of a junkyard 360 magnum and a couple of bolt-ons. The room, weight, headers, make the small block the only choice in my opinion. Your car though, do as you please.

I have the hood pins and there is a member here with a snorkel scoop, but I don't have the money for it.If I could sell the 383 I would order a 390 kit ,but rebuilt motors are hard to sell. They only thing I do not like about the 383 is if the starter quits you have to pull the tranny to replace it.
Oh and it would not be a sleeper my 383 sounds better than my Dad's 426 Hemi with headers.

It's kind of funny I bought the 383 out of the junkyard in 1993.Irebuilt it in 1993 and again in 2012.It has been in several cars I have owned over the years so my buddies call it the ***** motor.I have had it in a 1966 Charger,1980 Volarie,1967 Coronet,1968 Coronet,69 A12 Road Runner, and a 68 GTS.And it all most made it in my 1970 Road Runner but it was a survivor and I just could not do it.So maybe the Duster will be lucky #7....

You just need a better set of headers than the B body headers. I'll attempt some pictures again tomorrow.

Very Intersting . But I have to ask Why are they so readily Available from Wrecker yards ???

Transmissions. My 01 ram has 153k miles and the engine runs GREAT but the truck is sitting, waiting for my parts to come and me to pull the trans to get it built.

Well the 383 lost out.I sold the 383 yesterday, this will give me enough coin to buy the rest of my 4 speed parts and a few other parts I will need to drop in the 318.I know of a 74 motorhome 360 40,000 miles and runs good.I may have to buy it.
New Duster makeover part II coming soon.......

Part I......http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=233622&highlight=duster+makeover

Too bad you sold the 383

That would be my choice and if you could find manifolds the starter can be changed without pulling engine or trans. Took me all night on my brothers 69 GTS 383 auto. It is a 2 person job, one on top one on bottom. Had to wait till midnight for dad to get home to finish it........ LOL

Headers dont know but a mini starter might fit

I really wanted to drop in the 383.But I had to just face the facts,I make way less money than I did a year and a half ago.I could have dropped in either engine but I did not have the money to finish it up.Now I have enough money to drop in the 318 with a 4 speed. And at $3.00 + a gallon the 318 will be easier on gas.Maybe later on the Duster will see a 360 magnum or a 360 LA...Sold the 383 to a FABO member.
