Getting ready to buy exhaust for my 70 duster need some input. The engine is a 340 stroked to 416.Hp is 502 tq is 580.Which is better for this engine a 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust with x or h pipes. And what is a good muffler that is not to much drone or to loud. Thanks

Summit has a pretty good universal exhaust kit for like 250 or so. I have not installed mine yet but seems like everyone likes the sound.

I have a 360sbm/430hp with full 3 inch TTI system, including their supplied Dynomax muffs. I had to sacrifice the X-over to install a GV overdrive and lost some TQ down low.The system is only noisy when I stand on it.Never been pulled over for noise. No highway drone in O/D. 62mph=2200rpm. 74lbs from collectors back to bumper.

I have the tti headers am considering buying the rest from them. How do you like the gv

Street driven and quite = 2-1/2

Everybody around doesn't matter, I want my power = 3

An "X" pipe helps noise a little bit. An "H" does as well but not as much. You'll not really notice it yourself so much.
As far as mufflers go, a drone free one? I did like my Hooker Aero chambers. My Summit mufflers also did very well.

3" for sure.

I'm running bolra xr-1's. Much quieter than my flowmasters especially inside.

the TTI system is nice. I love the sound. Here's my IMM built 408 with headers, 3inch, x-pipe, dynomax super turbos, 2.5 tailpipes. Its very nice when you want to cruise around, but opens up nicely when you hit the pedal. roccodart440, post a sound clip of those Borla's.

-re post4, the GV; I thought, years ago when I bought it,That it was the cats meow. I really liked that I could put it behind, this that and the other thing. It works great. Its especially nice behind the 3.09-O/D box. 7 useable gears, almost perfect splits.PITA around town. That unit shifts extremly fast, and takes abuse. Rips spring-hubs out of stock 340 discs with CenterForce pp.Shifts nice if you clutch it like it was a regular gear change.
-What I dont like is that GV wont sell me the tools to rebuild it, nor will they sell me adapters for other trannys. They want my current adapter back.
-In hindsight, a shoulda saved up for a 5 speed. Or, possibly,a Winters rear.

I have tried. It just doesn't record right. I used TTI's system as well. I probably would just build my own if I had to do it again. I don't like how they run the front section where it comes back to the mufflers. Way too close to the driveshaft.

The tailpipes didn't work for me because of the relocation kit. I modified them but still have a few issues with clearance when you hit a hard bump. My car sits kind of low.

X2 on GV overdrive. I'd never own another car without one. The first time you run 4.56's down the interstate and tach the engine at mid 2's you'll understand.

I run 2.5" with 40 series Flowmaster's which is a real nice sound. Its reasonably quiet until you get on it, then it changes to a loud raspy thrush noise that will wake the dead. When I want to open up some power I just hit the switch to open up the 2.5" cutouts

Just an FYI, going to 3" will quiet it down all by itself.

My engine made more power and ran better with the 3". My engine makes 315hp/450tq at the wheels. Clearly not very radical. goes 11.70's in street trim.

I had 3" on my last Dart, 340 410HP...... That thing was so loud, always had cops bothering me (got a noise fine) and the drone was horid

3" TTi X pipe dumped at the axle with UltraFlo's. Not much drone to them even dumped, but they ain't quiet. If they were run out the back it may be different. The neighbors joke about how it "busts their windows out" when I start it. That's exaggerated but 'tis noisy.

WHat mufflers?

What compression ratio?

Did the pipes run to the back bumper?

3" Flowmaster original 40 series, side exit pipes in front of the rear tires

10.5:1

There's why it's so loud.

Flowmaster 40's dumping 6 feet before they should.

I had the slowmasters and went to 3" with borla XR-1's. Much less interior noise, quieter all around and less drone.

Any one buy a exhaust set from jegs for 70 duster, how well did it fit.Hate to put out 7 or 8 hundred dollars for tti

I think there have been several write ups about the $250 Jegs 2 1/2" mandrel bent, aluminized exhaust kit, with welded mufflers included. The consensus seems to be that people are satisfied or very happy with the kit. I think this is the same kit RaniDart purchased recently.

I'm hoping to get more feedback as well, but I have a 360 with the TTI headpipes connected to my HP manifolds. It would be awesome for me to be able to combine the kit from Jegs with the head pipes from TTI... Anybody done this?

I have the same 3" TTI set-up on my race car as clinteg. I've gotten many compliments on the sound at the track. The X-pipe helped ET a bit and the Dynomax Ultraflows didn't hurt power over open exhaust. It does get loud when I get on it.

I bought one for my 74 Dart Sport. Not bad fitment, some trimming on the tail pipes, but that's no big deal.

When Derek bought his he jogged my memory about the savings. If you buy the pipes, hangers and clamps kit by itself, then order the mufflers separate, you can save ten bucks, doesn't make sense, but it's true.

I would definitely go with the Jegs kit over Summits because of the mufflers. Summits kit has the rolled lip sealed type muffler, while Jegs are welded mufflers. That was the only reason I bought from Jegs.
