360 harmonic balancers

Are these interchangeable? They both came off of running motors. The one on the left came off of a 1977 360. The one on the right looks new and came off of a 1971 360. What's the deal?

I believe that they are interchangeable.

I put an older one on a 91 engine... (But we haven't installed and started it yet...)

Not that you already didn't get your answer but yes they are interchangeable. had a 72 360. Rubber in balancer was bad. Replaced it with one of the later style balancers no problems at all.

Just curious; Are the pulleys also interchangeable?
The 71 is prettier. I have one on mine. It looks like all the other early LAs. You could paint it blue........

One pulley bolt hole was offset at some point on balancers, but I don't recall when or if it was within the 360 timeline.

I believe they went to removing weight from the opposite side of the balancer to accomplish the same balance in order to save weight and material.
